Is the Bolex 18-5L Super a dual projector or is it Super 8mm only? I did a forum search but couldn't find a definite answer.

Thanks.

According to the Bolex Collector web site, the 18-5L is super 8 only and is auto threading. If you are considering buying one, be sure it uses a halogen bulb, EYN, which was introduced by Bolex in about 1971, not the original incandescent bulb which has been discontinued (Phillips designation 13730C 04 RT44 - also referred to as the "spaceman bulb") This "spaceman" bulb is still available on eBay but now very expensive. I have a 18-5L and it is definitely super 8 only. Also, I have recently seen on ebay, Bolex regular 8 projectors advertised as super 8 (18-5L).

Thanks for the info, super 8 only rules it out.

Vern
The Super 8 Database is a good place to look.

Vern,
There are no dual gauge 18-5 projectors. The original 18-5 was standard (regular) 8 only since Super 8 hadn't been introduced. The next model the 18-5 Auto was also standard 8 only. Then came the 18-5 Super which was Super 8 only and finally the 18-5SL which was also Super 8 only. The standard 8 models may be recognised by the ventilation slots in the side of the lamp-house, the Super 8 models by the same slots in the top of the lamp-house. The SL is recognisable by the square bezel around the rotary control switch. Hope this helps. See Bolex Collector 18-5 Projector
