It has a VU meter, perhaps it was used to help with recording levels. It seems unlikely to assist in playback.

It appears to be a simple line-level amplifier with an adjustable level and some sort of high or low filtering. Could be quite useful if made well. Did you win it, Adrian?

I didn't win it. I would have been curious to try it out but I found the leads a bit baffling and that would have caused extra effort - a 5 pin din and phono plugs are not what I'm used to in relation to projectors and speakers, but perhaps people with different equipment would find them more convenient.
