Does anybody have a universal 8 catalog to check to see if "the best of horror pt. 1-2" were made with sound or was it a sub-titled edition only? thanks

Thanks Pat, I thought universal 8 would only put out sound 400ft reels...guess not.

I though these were basically just the headline editions compiled.

I own both films and mine are 400' silent editions. They are comprised of eight 50' headline editions each, including (Part I): House of Frankenstein, Dr. Cyclops, The Creature Walks Among Us, Tarantula, Dracula, The Mummy, Battle of the Giants (from One Million B.C.), and Creature from the (Black) Lagoon, and (Part II): The Mummy's Ghost, Doom of Dracula, Revenge of the Creature, The Deadly Mantis, One Million B.C., Bride of Frankenstein, War of the Planets (from This Island Earth), and It Came from Outer Space.
All of my United States Universal 8 catalogs and brochures list these two volumes as only available in 400' silent super 8 editions. This is the same for the other five compilations from Universal 8 (The Best of W.C. Fields, The Best of Abbott and Costello (part I and II), and The Best of Woody Woodpecker (part I and II available in color).

Any chance you could have picked up a print that someone had sound striped and recorded? Castle never had sound headline editions and I doubt if U-8 would have bothered.

I thought universal would have made a print with narration along with original the soundtracks to these titles.

That sure is a strong possibility. It was a 2 part film I remember with narration etc. It came in film cans no box art. I should have never sold it. Another senior moment.

Pat, I believe you had the documentary "Monsters We've Known and Loved". I think it was part of a series of film related docs made for TV.

I wonder how many of us have compiled our headline editions on to 400 reels. I've made a couple of sci-fi/horror reels and they are fun to watch that way.

I did that too Terry back in the 1960s. Screened them with my Anscomatic projector while Beatles LPs provided the soundtrack. Great memories [Big Grin]
