I have a Eumig Mark S810D HQS dual 8 sound projector that is in fantastic shape as far as I can tell, complete with manual and accessories, both gates, sprockets for changing formats, leather carrying case, etc. It worked fine until I stupidly broke the claw pin a few years ago while changing gates without turning the knob to retract the claw, rendering the whole projector useless.

I'm in the process of clearing out a lot of the extra stuff that I have around the apartment and I'm not sure what to do with this machine. It is by far the best projector I own, but it also doesn't work.

Is there anyone out there who can repair this issue, or can I repair it somehow myself? It seems that the claw needs to be aligned quite precisely or else it's going to tear perfs and not advance the film properly. Not sure if the repair is economical or if it would be cheaper to just buy another projector. The other two projectors I have are both silent, the take-up reel doesn't turn fast enough on one of them, and they both use the low-wattage and extremely expensive CXR bulbs, so I will probably be looking to offload those, but I'm not sure if I should keep this Eumig or just start afresh with a tested good unit.

Failing that, should I just sell it for parts? Or is there someone who has interest in doing the repair themself who might want to buy it?

My advice is to find a repairman who has the required spare to fix it: ask for an estimate of costs and if it is below about $ 70 have it fixed. Otherwise look for another unit of the same model or similar (Model 824 is excellent in that category) and you'll have the added benefit of a lot of spares from the older machine. In any case, do not throw it in the garbage!!!! Someone might be interested in it for spares as well: motor and sound heads are a must to save but also the transformer and the sound board may come in handy in some circumstances as well as film guides and pressure shoe, sprocket wheels... If I lived in Canada, I'd probably make an offer to buy it. I guess others here might be interested. Just put it in the Sale section of the forum.

Great advice Maurizio! Especially the bit about not throwing the machine out as rubbish/ garbage. We are never going to see manufacturers making these things again so ALL projector parts are valuable to somebody within the hobby!

I didn't mean to give the impression that I have ever considered outright throwing it away, but I'm unsure if the broken claw is a fatal enough problem that the projector should be used as a parts donor by myself or someone else, or if it can be repaired relatively easily for a reasonable price. At one point I recall hearing that claw alignment generally requires specialist equipment, but I don't know if that is true or not, especially for this particular model.

Paul, the claw adjustment on most machines is fairly straightforward and just requires a little common sense in most cases as to where to set it. Your main problem is getting hold of a decent serviceable used claw, be it a donor machine or just the part itself. Once you have found the solution to this problem, there are enough of us on here with the necessary experience to guide you through the steps that should be taken and safeguard you from any potential pitfalls.

Does anyone know of someone who deals in Eumig parts like the claw arms? Might be a popular enough component from people breaking their claws off like I did, though, that my only option might be to cannibalize one from another projector.
