Hi all,

I recently got hold quite cheap a regular 8mm Elmo FP projector, handy as it has a speed control.
Motor seems fine, some on here from my searching seem to know a bit about this brand, anyway I put a few drops of oil on the two cogs in the back the plastic and metal ones, which helped the manual winder more things, but when I turned motor on, even at full speed, they didn't move and neither did spindles.

I suspected belts, I actually I think fluked it, I was pulling on the belt that connects to the motor / fan, as it appears loose and once I did that obviously I created enough tension as cog wheels, shutter blade and spindles moved as they should.

Found this on Ebay Aust from seller in USA, is it the right one?

Hi Phil...I have the Elmo FP-A which is a dual gauge machine. It was the first Elmo I purchased. However the back insides looks very similar to yours. I think you'll have to wait until you install the new motor belt to see if that solves the problem before making any other suggestions.

I have a copy of the FP Technical Manual. It's not a service manual...more like a parts list with pics. Let me know if you would like it.

Yes since I posted I have noticed Elmo FP model had a few different versions, but basically same belts etc.

Yes I'm going to get both belts, bit suss of the top belt for Reel spindles, as when I turn the manual winder, while the belt and the spindles inside the back move, the reel spindles on the outside don't move, ( I assume they should) funny looking belt, not rubber, kind of looks like wound together metal of some sort.

Would you mind checking if your Elmo top belt does the same or not when you use the manual winder, if it has one.

Phil...The front spindles should move when turning the threading knob. The large upper belt should be rubber...at least that's all I have ever seen. It's also possible there is something wrong with the take-up assembly, but again you won't be sure unless you get the proper belt installed.

If you need assistance installing the upper belt...let me know, but I love this YouTube video showing how to replace the belt [Smile]

Found a seller in USA with both.

Thanks for you tube link, that is real handy.

BTW remember my Sankyo 600, problem was that speed control board, oh man do I wish I had looked harder at that first before micro switches, however my MS now have better solder and I put some terminals on them too, replaced wiring as well.

But in hindsight especially after few months ago you gave me advise on how to adjust the speed pots, hmm, sometimes the obvious stares one in the face, s someone had played with this board before, I'd imagine to try and make their own Telecine etc. Just waiting on a follow 8mm forum member Pete from Australia here to send me a replacement board.

Does this help with your Sankyo at all? Or is it a different set up to the 600?

Glad to hear that your 600 is on the road to recovery. Unfortunately my 800 has multiple issues. The power board needs some traces repaired...a couple components on the speed board replaced and a fuse added. After that I need to replace the transformer. This repair is somewhere towards the bottom of my lengthy to-do list. [Eek!]

If you need more belts for your FP, and other Elmo's, I highly recommend Marvin Meister at The Photo Center 7961 Beverly Blvd. LA, CA 90048. His Phone Number is 323-653-6688, and Marvin has worked on my Elmo St 800 too. If you send him a text message at this phone number, he can give you a email address too. I'm sorry that I have forgotten it.

He is very knowledgeable, and sometimes can help you with a problem over the phone. I really like the FP a lot, and use it often. Its only flaw is the zoom attachment, which usually has clouded over. When this happens there is no way to fix it. I find it is better to use without it. If you pull back 30 or 40 feet from where you are projecting, you will still get a decent size image. I do this quite often with my weekly film series.

Anyway Belts are on order for Elmo.

We'll shall see when I get them. Seller seems a slow poster, but his scheduled delivery time is not till 27 Oct plus, man that is slow. Although I got a parcel here in Australia from Country South Australia and it too a week, man sometimes I can get stuff from USA in 7 working days or less.

just an update to say all good, one new motor belt and Elmo is happy, man quiet machine, I got other belt and will put it on to, as it is a tiny bit sluggish turning rewind spindle.

Oh I did have to use 3 in one oil as well where sprockets are, as the manual winding was stiff as anything, after a few drops, carefully placed, it is fine.
