Okay, I purchased a Bell & Howell Travelmate 6pc Movie Outfit yesterday at an amazing price. The set does not include the video recorder but does have many films and all instructions and manuals. The projector was in the original box with instructions and still in styrofoam. Anyhow....So we take it out and start to set it up. Here is the problem....the projector will not load the film. when you put it in the "load" mode, it won't move or pick it up at all. Then when you turn it to forward, it won't move either. The only motion it will do is to rewind. The light comes on fine and all. We took the side off and noticed the belt was stretched beyond belief so we replaced it. Now trying to figure what to do to make it work properly. It is extremely clean and looks like it was not used much at all. The cord was wrapped and had a tie on it. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know. I purchased this because I have some old films from the 40's which I want to view and see what is on them. I would also like to see what are on these films. I am not a collector but would like to get it running if it isn't too expensive. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

I believe that the projector is a Bell & Howell 10MS made in Hong Kong and badged as a Bell & Howell.

The main control knob will probably operate onto various micro-switches for the different functions, if it runs in reverse and also with the lamp and not in the forward position, I would suggest that the micro-switch which connects for forward motor drive is faulty.

If this is the case then a professional repair could be costly, providing that the relevant micro-switch is available.

Below I give a link to the Sears Dual 8 Silent Projector which is the same as the B & H 10MS. Is it like yours?

Rebecca...I have the same issue with my 10MS. After careful examination...I believe the problem... at least with mine... is in the supply reel pulley assembly. The supply reel pulley controls the feed and forward motion of the take-up reel. The plastic gear on these tend to crack so it does not pull the metal belt that moves the take-up pulley.

The screw is very difficult to remove I actually broke mine trying to unloosen it. I was able to glue the gear and get it put back together...it's better...but it's still not working properly. Like your machine the projector else-wise is fine. I wish I had better information for your, but I would suggest looking for another projector. Mine is going back on the shelf for now until I can find a replacement part.
