Very pricey! Phil Johnson sold it a few years back for about 300 dollars, which is still steep, but not as bad. Too bad one of my favorite films for sure.

Over £500.00 plus postage to the uk, that's if they post to here, also got the time machine at the same price, also red fox films. I wonder if these are better prints than the derann run of this print ?, did they take over the negs when red fox stopped trading, a pity this ebayer doesn't have the special postage from paypal, would have had a bid on the time machine print, looks nice.

I had the full feature of the Time Machine and it was an original Red Fox print all in their original Red Fox boxes. It was a lovely rich colourful print but still wasn't without negative sparkle, so I can only imagine whatever came after from Derann getting hold of their negatives, would be worse.

I sold mine to a fellow forum member for a fraction of this price as I felt it was unfair to ask silly money for it due to the negative sparkle. Had it been as good as the best Derann prints taken from brand new negatives like Silence Of The Lambs for example, I would have wanted around £200 for it.

It takes a while longer to save for them but it works alright for me and many others on here.

Ironically, based on discussion above, I have just heard the very sad news that Rod Taylor star of the Time Machine, The Birds,101 Dalmatians etc has sadly passed away today I believe. He was truly iconic in the parts he played.

Hey you guys.....it says the seller will accept an offer AND I noticed they are now accepting International shipping !! On BOTH " THE TIME MACHINE " and " THE MUMMY " !
Seems to be a high amount BUT are these prints , in quality , in abundance ?
I haven't seen these listed anywhere in YEARS .
From the screen shots shown in the listing , sure looks worth it .

I don't suppose any are in abundance nowadays David aside from optical totally faded prints that no one seems to want anymore.

It's just a case of what you feel they are worth as an individual. By the sounds of it, the seller will not have a problem finding a new loving home for either of these, though he may be forced to come down a little I would have thought.

Well , yeah me too .
A few years ago ( maybe more than a few ) you could get these from places like Derran for less than 800.00 , but I guess , like you say , it's all about what it's worth to the buyer .
Not seeing them offered for a long time makes me feel they are really rare and hard to find , but , like a new car , if I REALLY WANT IT OR MUST HAVE IT , I'll buy it .
Out of my price range too .
Although I COULD take a loan out.....heh heh heh [Big Grin]

For all my favourites that are out of reach, I spend a whopping £8 on the Blu Ray. Ok its not as tactile or the exact same experience but the picture is simply stunning on my 10ft screen. I could own over 120 movies for one at these prices!

I much prefer the hobby this time around now there is a true alternative for all that is simply TOO expensive.

Even with our interest in the hobby, everything has to have a limit and as said this is way past mine. [Razz]

That isn't entirely my viewpoint David.

Yes a disc is very disposable as apposed to an actual REAL film, but what counts ultimately is the enjoyment gained from the experience of watching the movie. There are simply just too many great films that are not there to be had now on film to completely ignore the other formats nowadays IMHO.

Example: going a lifetime without watching the Shawshank Redemption or Saving Private Ryan on your home cinema screen all because you are never gonna get it on Super 8... well to me that would be just daft!

Very much a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face all for the sake of principle.

It can be got from people living in the real super 8 world for £150 - £175 in pounds if you play your cards right.

That price is absolutely crazy.

I`ve got the Dracula 58 Blu Ray on I just bought right now 10 feet wide on a very basic LCD projector and its fabulous.

These sort of daft prices are taking film things way beyond any possible normal income younger newbies in the hobby sadly.

David Guest just very kindly gave my son a few great little 16mm films to get him going, thanks David, and I`m hoping to get him his own golden newer Eiki for his birthday. But its going to have to be interesting little ditties etc on film. At least those are still cheap enough.

Daft thing as siad is its only just over 3 years ago people could of bought many of these titles around the £250-350 mark brand new from Derann and spread it over 6-12 month and they din`t. Shame.

Mark is completely right. We all have to be careful our beloved hobby doesn't become too expensive for us all or else my modest collection will sure have to be repeated very very often! lol.

David, I totally agree with your sentiments regarding "The Experience" from screening real film. I get such a buzz from watching all of mine.. even the faded or scratched ones!

It may just be the screenshots, but I'd be worried that the print of THE MUMMY is too dark. The one I used to own certainly wasn't like that.

Andrew, I couldn't agree with you more. As a long-time film collector, digital has reached the point and allows me to finally obtain pristine print and jaw-dropping sound quality, both of which I continuously sought during my 44 years of film collecting. Being able to enjoy movies on my home cinema screen that will never make it to Super 8, and not having to spend an arm and leg to acquire a feature film that, at its best, still wouldn't reach the quality level of a (at most) $30 Blu Ray. While I do enjoy film, I'm at the point now in my life that not having to stand on one's head to obtain decent sound quality and not constantly fiddle with the projector have only increased my enjoyment of the hobby.

Good for you John! I can see the benefits of both worlds and to that end, I am very pleased to have an alternative that I can own when the film is either outside my league or the title is simply unavailable on film.

I doubt I would ever spend more than £300 on any one film...not even Star Wars!

Luckily, our dealers over here still sell decent prints for fixed realistic prices when they obtain a collection. You just have to be very very quick and always have patience and pot of money saved for when they come up.

E Bay attracts the attention of the world and as such you will always find someone with huge amounts of disposable and little patience for the things they want.
