just bought a new 2000H

A brand new never used machine for a fiver, still you never know?
This will be my second 2000H, I`m presuming I`ll need to put a new belt on. The mains lead is still in plastic seal, let me know what you. think.

You had a bargain, as I had the same a while back a Sankyo 1000 for a tenner in a charity shop, still sealed etc, the belt was turned to gooe, but replaced it and lubed the machine and it runs smoothly...

It's the correct link now James. You really got a bargain. You should definitely replace the belt, and I would do it before you run the projector, if you have not run it already. If you run it and the belt goes, you will have a gooey mess to clean up.

Barry, I know what you mean. My first Elmo ST-1200D went goey after a few weeks or maybe it was a few months. It's a mess to clean up for sure. A real bargain in any case

It`s not being sent till Monday, I`ll check the belt & give it a lube before I run it. Thanks for advice. I use Silicone Multi purpose Grease on moving parts, is this right?

The Sankyos were manufactured with life-time lubrication. When you get the projector check the grease first. If it has turned brown and thickened, then remove the old grease and add new. I use Super Lube Synthetic Grease. It is an excellent multi-purpose grease that contains PTFE (Teflon). However, if the existing grease is not discolored and still soft...just leave it.

I use the same grease Janice does. If it is not available in the UK, white lithium grease would be my next choice. Replacing the belt requires removing a plate that you get at from behind the lamp. Janice did a thread with pics detailing how to do it. It is really quite simple.

First remove the lamp...then loosen the two screws as indicated to remove the plate guard.

....then replace the belt using the same process as I've demonstrated in this video for the Sankyo 1000.

I recently replaced the belt on my 2000H, of course with the help of Janice's belt replacement instructions. Thank you Janice!

Hi Winbert, I already hold two 2000H machines. Both are in very good working condition. So it doesn’t make good sense to get a third one. Nevertheless thank you so much for the link. Hope one of our members can grab the machine.

As for the uniqueness of the Sankyo 1000 and 2000's - these are machines with some unique and special features & capabilities which are most useful & suitable for telecine conversion of silent films to video. These are very reliable and robust machines. However our projector pundits will be able to say a lot more on these machines.

The silicone grease should be fine.

Sankyo 2000H is a popular machine because of the dual format capability, the high quality lens, ease of maintenance, rheostat variable speed, inexpensive lamp and pinch rollers rather than sprockets.
