I just won the following auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/201460526566?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
What can anyone tell me about this print? I talked to the seller, and if it's not complete, I can return it. Anyone know who released it? Derann perhaps?
I sold a beautiful 16mm print of this title earlier this year, and have regretted it. This may make it a little easier to swallow.

Hi Jack....I would think super 8 optical would be an airline print but looking close at the picture those look like 16mm reels so I am confused. Those could be the large extended reels for super 8, I have seen them with the square hole.

Seller is using generic photos no matter 16mm or super 8mm. Look at these listings:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/16mm-Feature-STOAWAY-Shirley-Temple-1936-LN-B-W-/191730322469?[/ URL]
[URL=http://www.ebay.com/itm/Film-Super-8-Optical-Sound-SHALL-WE-DANCE-Astaire-Feature-/201460527711?]http://www.ebay.com/itm/Film-Super-8-Optical-Sound-SHALL-WE-DANCE-Astaire-Feat ure-/201460527711?
Having seen his completed listings that both listed 16mm and super 8mm films, plus the seller ID (vetofilm), I guess he was not new to films, so he would have known what he was selling.
cheers,

Super 8 Optical- will this not play on my Elmo ST-1200?
Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on November 10, 2015, 05:31 AM:
May do, depends on model?
Posted by Steve Klare (Member # 12) on November 10, 2015, 07:57 AM:
'Morning, Jack!
Does your ST-1200 model number end in "M", or "MO"?
If it's "MO", you are in business.
"O", is "Optical". Most STs are "M" only.
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 10, 2015, 05:58 PM:
It is marked Elmo ST1200 HD M... No O So I'm very confused, but I guess no surprise there. I thought optical sound was like with 16mm- A soundtrack read by the exciter lamp. Super 8 doesn't work that way?
I'm frustrated... someone help me out and explain my snafu!!
Posted by Steven J Kirk (Member # 1135) on November 10, 2015, 06:02 PM:
The super 8 format includes optical sound or magnetic mono and stereo. Super 8 prints will have one mag stripe, two mag stripes OR a mono optical track. Many projectors are only magnetic, SOME are also optical.
BUT that looks like a square spindle hole so looks like a 16mm print.
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 10, 2015, 06:11 PM:
No- it's a stock photo he's using- It's definitely Super 8
The seller says he also has the same title in magnetic sound. He is going to check on the stock for me. I can't believe I made this mistake. Luckily I am dealing with a great seller.
Anyone know where this print may have been made? Was Easter Parade printed by Derann?
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on November 10, 2015, 07:14 PM:
Magnetic print will have more value than the optical ones. So if the seller is willing to replace with the magnetic prints, grab it!
Easter Parade was released on super 8mm by MGM for a 400' version. Like other titles for limited releases MGM also printed the full version. So it might be from MGM.
I am not sure for Derann release.
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 10, 2015, 07:52 PM:
I will indeed get the magnetic print, provided the seller is willing.
I didn't realize MGM printed some of their titles in limited release. Any list of what else may have been printed as well?
Posted by Jason Gronn (Member # 3921) on November 10, 2015, 10:19 PM:
I had the full MGM release and wish l never sold it.
Beautiful print on LPP and with original case.
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 11, 2015, 09:36 PM:
Seller has informed me he is sending me the print he has of Easter Parade in beautiful color with magnetic sound.
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on November 12, 2015, 06:19 AM:
I guess you are lucky Jack...it is really a lessing in disguise. The magnetic ones will have value between $175-250 providing it has exc color(LPP quality)
Posted by Gary Crawford (Member # 67) on November 12, 2015, 07:02 AM:
Jack, I used to have that feature...wow. it had great low fade color. And yes..your Elmo is Mag. only. Some did have optical, too. But there are, comparatively few optical prints out there and many have faded. But then, so have I. They need to make lpp people.

Old Film Collectors never die?
They just....
Posted by Graham Ritchie (Member # 559) on November 12, 2015, 01:14 PM:
...fade away....
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 12, 2015, 08:58 PM:
The seller has told me that the color is great, so I truly am expecting it to be the LPP stock several of you have mentioned. As soon as I get a 1200 foot take up reel, I will take a picture or two and share them with you.
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on November 14, 2015, 02:28 PM:
I hope that you can put up some screenshots. I was curious about this print as well, but without screenshots, I was hesitant. I hope that you lucked out.
Posted by David Ollerearnshaw (Member # 3296) on November 14, 2015, 03:10 PM:
The magnetic prints would have been originally from Red Fox or Ken Films. I think Red Fox is the favourite. Derann did print these when they bought the negatives.
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 21, 2015, 09:15 AM:
The print arrived. I'm taking a few pictures now to post for you guys. As soon as I figure out how I will. The color is as good as the 16mm print I foolishly sold last spring. Actually I'd call it stunning. They make a look a bit faded here because I'm taking snapshots during the day, though I've darkened the room as best I can.
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on November 21, 2015, 12:56 PM:
WOW! You're not kidding! Now I'm kicking myself! (however, when I see him put up other auctions, when he says "good color", I kno0w he is to be trusted!
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 21, 2015, 02:56 PM:
A beautiful print. Now if I could determine who printed this... Derann, MGM itself, or someone else?
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on November 21, 2015, 10:42 PM:
For $125....you are just lucky!!
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 22, 2015, 06:43 AM:
I'm not often lucky- but if you think so, perhaps I should head out to the casino rather than church this morning.
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on November 23, 2015, 12:10 PM:
Jack, since it's a super 8 optical sound print, it was probably, directly from MGM's own negatives and released from them directly.
Boy, those extra screenshots make me even more envious! Go ahead, keep on rubbing it in!!!!!
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 23, 2015, 06:56 PM:
Osi-
He had a magnetic and an optical sound print. When I discovered I didn't have optical Super 8 sound, he swapped it out for me with the magnetic copy. If you want an optical sound print, I believe he still has it-
Hope this helps a bit.
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on November 23, 2015, 07:19 PM:
Judging from the screen shots, it is from Red Fox (USA)
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 23, 2015, 07:37 PM:
What tips you off to this being a Red Fox print Winbert? Curious as to what gives it away?
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on November 24, 2015, 01:25 PM:
Jack are you saying that the screenshots that you're showing on this series of posts are from the optical sound super 8 print, or the magnetic sound print?
Posted by Bill Phelps (Member # 1431) on November 24, 2015, 03:44 PM:
Osi....if you read the entire thread you would realize that Jack received a mag print and the seller originally advertised it as optical and had both and Jack received the mag...the pictures are from the mag print.
Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on November 24, 2015, 05:19 PM:
I am judging from the possibility because Derann is in the UK (Europe) most of the time...not always..used AGFA stock. Well it was European product obviously. AGFA tends to give bluish tone.
Red Fox is the USA and used Kodak stocks, the most preferable stock by film enthusiasts, since it give balanced colors and your print looks to be very balanced.
Cheers

That is a superb print Jack! Look after it buddy. You got yourself an absolute bargain there!!
Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on November 25, 2015, 12:26 PM:
Didn't catch that. Hmm, I wonder how the optical sound print looks?
Posted by Jack Cleveland (Member # 4485) on November 25, 2015, 09:06 PM:
