I won a Elmo super8mm projector model SP-F,
I plugged it in , loaded a film,the wheels turn and the lamp lights up.....but ....it run extremely slow even with the speed on max.
I've taken the back off and the motor appears to be running right and it's turning the next part fine too.
But when looking at the shutter part it is straining to turn,I can turn it by using my finger and that turns freely I think.
It looks like it has only one belt.
It has heaps of cogs to run this projector!
Any thoughts,maybe grease the cogs,or is there another belt I can't see that's slipping maybe?

Hello Clinton,
The SP-F has a big metal wheel around the shutter that is directly on a rubber wheel from the engine, your problem sounds like that the rubber is to old/worn for correct usage. You can try if this is the problem by opening the back then running the projector and slightly pushing the metal behind this rubber wheel. (this works only when the projector is actually running.)

This one is interesting: I always thought the ST-1200 was the only Elmo with the roller/shutter wheel arrangement.

Ok ... The only visible belt was fine and then I gave the cogs a lube and the projector did run faster, and then the bulb blew! so I don't know if it is running to the right speed [Frown]

And I then put it into reverse to wind the film back off the end reel,the projector didn't like that and hardly moved!
I'm thinking it has more problems than worth my time especially since I now need to buy a new lamp!?

Thanks for posting the pics Clinton. It's always nice to see the insides of projectors. I have an Elmo FP-A. It's drive system is different than the SP-F...but I'm having the same issue with the speed being very slow. In fact...the variable rheostat doesn't even change the speed. I kind of gave up on trouble-shooting this projector too. If I ever find the source of the speed problem...I'll post it. It might help you too [Smile]
