A question for Edwin, Ref the GS1200 top sprocket shoe, is the arrangement for attaching the coil spring the same as the original i.e. a longer spindle on the first roller, and can the internal micro switch that is fitted on the later GS1200 be fitted ok? there are two versions of this shoe, from the photo it looks as if yours is only for the earlier machines without the internal micro switch, on the later version the input roller is attached to a small arm and spring that activates the switch, I could be wrong it may just be the way I am looking at the photo.

Hi Bill,
Good question!
We made this version based on the early model of the GS1200.
It works for this series (also tested in now on the ST600).
If someone can send me an the original part of the later model for:
http://shop.van-eck.net/PP-0098.html?_globalsearch=pp-0098
(don't have it currently), we can see if you we can also reproduce that (or even better, make a new one, which fits on both the old and mew models of the GS1200)

Would that work on a ST 180 ?

Yes, compared the pictures of these projectors, these are exactly the same:

Perhaps it may be an idea to label these parts as MK 1 GS 1200 parts for now then Edwin, just to save any confusion on behalf of prospective purchasers. Just a thought.
Posted by Edwin van Eck (Member # 4690) on January 04, 2016, 07:13 AM:
Ofcourse will do that. Note this this is only valid for the upper film guide: http://shop.van-eck.net/PP-0098.html?_globalsearch=pp-0098 (not for the loop former, nor for the film inlay part)
How can an end user easily see the difference between MK1 and MK2 for the GS 1200 series?
Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on January 04, 2016, 07:26 AM:
The lower loop is formed in the opposite (reverse) direction on the later MK3 model. That, I believe is the most obvious visible detection, but I believe there are subtle changes to the control knobs etc.
People like Bill here are the experts on these Edwin.
Hopefully he can advise fully of all the changes across the generations of the
GS 1200's.

where can I find pictures of the different GS1200 range models?

PM Bill Edwin.
What he won't have or doesn't know about these machines isn't worth mentioning.

Edwin, I probably have one of the film inlet chutes with the black roller mounted on a spring lever: I guess that's the part mentioned here, albeit I had to remove it from a series 1 GS; I do not know if S1 may or may not have this upgraded type of film inlet guide as standard, I believe the person who refurbished this specific machine fitted this one taken from later version. But in my opinion this film guide is more prone to fil scratching than ever: in fact once the side railings the film rests on while travelling through this part, are worn out, the base side will come in contact with a sort of rib placed right in between the sprocket and the image areas. This will produce a continuous line on the far left side on the screen which, depending on how well centered the image is as opposed to the film aperture, might even not show on all machines. But it's there. I really can't find a reason to have that rib in that place, as if to sever - so to speak - the sprocket teeth area from the rest. In fact I guess if a file out that rib on my inlet guide, I'll be still able to use it without problems. Let me know if it can be of use to you, first.

I can see the shoe you have would be fine for the MK1 GS, ST600, ST160, ST180, but not the ST800.
I have some pictures here of the MK2 guide, you can see also two fixing holes for the micro switch that fits inside.
I do have a MK 2 guide I could send you Edwin, please let me know if you would like me to ? I see someone else has offered
I should add that these pictures are of a guide I have modified myself (and have been doing so for many years) the original would not have had the second roller fitted.

Hi Bill,
Please send me these MK2 guides. Much appreciated. I will look into this to see if I can make a new version which also allows for these new microswitches to be added (hopefully backwards compatible with previous models, so that it will fit all GS 1200 projectors (and other mentioned)).
I will return it to you with some addional rollers later!
(I will also put the seperate guide rollers on my webshop soon)

As long as the silver metal roller from the later guide fits into Edwin's current 2nd guide directly ( and I have just ordered one so I hope so ) then this guide is fine for all machines. The metal lever can be left out too. The microswitch can be left out. Correct me if I'm wrong but it only controls a drop in torque on reverse projection which is not that necessary. The microswitch doesn't fit easily into a two roller adapted piece and since Edwin's version has a 'back' to cover the second roller it surely wouldn't fit. That doesn't bother me, losing that switch and function. Surely just sacrifice the microswitch and the little lever the silver roller is on and the one piece fits all. ( I'll try all this when I get the order and post results unless someone beats me to it.)

Steven, you are correct about the torque micro switch, but I find a lot of my customers want everything to work, the mark one guide can be fitted without the switch, and the metal roller WILL fit the mk1 guide, so if you are not bothered about removing things it will be fine, as you say it will work, I have no knowledge of 3D printers, but if it is straightforward to copy a mark 2 guide why not have both, then everything can be left without removing anything.

Yes, my upper guides were modded to two rollers ( I have two ) by Kevin F and they are great but I don't think the standard microswitch will fit in well. Perhaps Edwin could supply a smaller microswitch proved to fit as part of a package if he does a Mk 2 version. Which I would probably buy as well. All very interesting developments...

Please put all your requirements / pictures / feedback on the guides here.
Our designers will collect all this info and make a proposal for a (set of) guides for the MK2 version.
The guides available now work on quite some popular Elmo projectors already http://www.van-eck.net/itable.php?lang=nl&size=0&cat=film&merk=52&type=none
Today shipped several guides all over the globe and starting another print run.

The MK2 version of the film guide is now almost ready.
See here a screenshot in our design software:
There is one issue, because we are designing additional film guide rollers in this part (compared to the original), the original micro-switch does not fit in the new design. So we want to include a new smaller micro-switch in this new part.
Anyone has a suggestion which generally available micro switch will fit here?
