I was looking at an old issue of Famous Monsters and on the page where the magazine sold Super 8 or regular 8mm films, there was an ad for Revenge of Frankenstein that claimed it was available in Technicolor. Now, I know the theatrical film was in Tech, but I also know good and well the 8mm cut downs weren't. Is it possible Columbia may done this for some of their films or perhaps it was an accidental printing? I myself think it was an ad miss print. What do the rest of you think?

I never saw that ad. My print which I bought new when it came out was already somewhat reddish....brownish. I was disappointed . Hope to see you in a few days at our beloved Cinesea!!!

I wouldn't put too much weight in terms of what those ads proclaimed -- I also recall that they would tout that a 200-foot digest would run "12 minutes" when we all know that it's closer to approx. 8 minutes......

There's often a lot of confusion though about the difference between a film that was actually shot in Technicolor and a film that is actually a Technicolor print.

I have the color print as well and even though the color is badly faded, it certainly is, by no means, Technicolor. I wonder if the ad copy was simply going off a general description of the movie itself. Funny that it's faded because all my other Columbia color prints are still rich with great greens and blues.

I guess they meant at 18 fps.

The film was shot in Eastmancolor and printed by Technicolor after having converted it in 3 strips. This process is a printing system like "offset" for paper. Three "matrix" (like plates for print) deliver their own color (Y.C.M.) on blank (BW film stock). The 3 colors added gave black. The machine to make the prints was about 30m long. As I know there's no more in service. So, a 8mm print CAN'T be in Technicolor.
