Tried to re-record but the old sound is not erased and the recorded sound is barely audible. Level meters swinging away happily while recording.

My first though would be that the erase head is either dead or is not getting current and the record head not getting full current. Maybe switching trouble dirty contacts.

I had a similar problem with the elmo Mark, have you changed the caps on your gs as per the mod mentioned on this forum at great length. After doing this mod on mine all good again.

Oh yes, Kevin changed the caps, but that was quite some time ago. I think around 15 years! How time flies.

Did you check the sound on sound facility? There is a knob controlling this fnction on the rear panel of the recording section: it should be fully turned clockwise AND there are two sitches nearby they should be set to "normal rec".

Thanks but no luck there.
I'll try replacing the capacitor, lucky for me I have found some in my spares box. (bought 2004)

I once had the same problem with a Eumig, but it turned out that the heads were just filthy with oxide. but I imagine yours is an electronic trouble.

Re soldered the capacitor all OK again.
