I've been wanting a standard 8mm version of the Bolex 18-5 for a very long time. I have a couple Super8 18-5L's ... but I wanted one of these beauties to play my 8mm silents. I found one and it arrived today. It's in absolute prestine condition. It even came in an original Bolex box and has both badges. I couldn't be more pleased.

Those adverts are wonderful Graham! I love the women with the flowers in one hand and the projector in the other. That could be me [Smile] [Cool] [Wink]

What is that machine in the last one? Is that some kind of a sound attachment?

Hi Janice

This is what was written below that photo...

"Sound"

Because of its virtually noiseless operation, the 18-5 is perfect for sound projection. Turning your 18-5 into a sound projector by means of the Bolex Sonorizer, you can record narration, music, and sound effects on a magnetic stripe placed directly on the film. The Sonorizer consists of amplifier, sound adaptor head and speaker.

Offers many possibilities such as fading and over-play resulting in remarkable sound reproduction. A synchronizer for tape recorder will be introduced in the near future.

PS It sure would be nice to come across one of those units [Cool] [Smile]

Looks just like mine Janice!
The 18-5 is a jewel of a projector, just superb in every respect. And it has a rear sprung gate, so that the picture is pin sharp irrespective of film thickness.
The problem with all those early magnetic sound attachments, like the Bolex Sonorizer, the Cirse Sound attachment, the Peterson magnetic etc, was that there was no standardization of picture-to-sound separation.
The extra front sprocket shown in the 18-5 photo was used to couple to the Bolex tape recorder synchronizer.
