Hello!

I've bought and sold many projectors, mostly B&Hs, and decided I should have a film to test them correctly. Big mistake for someone whos wife says "he conquers hobbies".
Anyhoo, after amassing a bunch of films and picking up a little Bauer T4, I needed something better. I've got a Eumig 802D and most recently a Yashica P810. I'm wondering if anyone has a PDF manual of the Yashica, or knows if the info in it is more than rudimentary?

Thanks!

I have the manual Jeff. I don't remember if I have scanned it. I'm out of town right now ... be back on thursday. PM me your email address and I'll send you it after I get home.

Jeff, I have one, (of the Yashicas 810, but I don't know if it's 810 or 810D, if there was a difference).

At the moment, the optical sound bulb is dead, (now, where to find that bulb?), but, apart from official manuals for it, (Janice, I would also LOVE a manual of this edition), I was always quite impressed with how smoothly, and quietly this little japanese projector runs, and quite bringht as well and the optical sound playback had a lot of bottom to the sound, which is actually better than some other brand name top models!

Well I'm super excited to get it. It's not inhand yet so I can't be 100% sure of its condition. My goal was to find an 8mm and Super 8 projector with sound, preferably good sound and a faster lens. You know this leaves but a few projectors. Also I didnt want to spend a ton on a nicer Elmo. I picked up an old Mickey Steamboat Willie with optical sound and did a search for optical
projectors and found the Yashica. It sounds like it has everything and is perfect if it works well. I'll keep you updated!

Now I have a spare Eumig I'll probably get rid of if the Yashica turns out well.

I love my Yashica P810. It's everything Osi says...a very stable bright picture and gentle on film.

I just got back from my trip. I looked and I have not scanned the P810 manual. So I'll do that tonight. Please if both you and Osi will PM me a request for the manual and include your email address I'll be happy to send it to you.

I've PMd you. Thank you so much. I looked hard all over the net and found nothing. Osi, have you looked for an optical bulb? I'm curious how hard that is to find.

You can replace the bulb with a 4V .75A Exciter bulb.

Jeff I emailed you the manual.

Osi...I don't believe there was an Yashica Sound P810D model. There was the P810 OM (Optical & Magnetic)...and the P820 M (Magnetic only).

Thank you Janice.

Osi - maybe you are thinking of the Eumig models where the D is for a Dual gauge? The Yashica OM not only does Optical and Magnetic but standard 8 and Super 8. Is this correct Janice?

Last night at Goodwill I found a brand new projection screen in the box for very little $. It's a good omen!

Jeff the P180 OM is Super 8 only. It does not run Standard 8mm film.

Hmm, I was JUST about to post here asking you that. After reading the manual, I didn't see anywhere that they mention film gauge. On the http://van-eck.net/ site they incorrectly state that it is standard 8mm and Super 8mm.

I need to look at my film inventory again, but I think I had a lot of regular 8mm sound films, so I'm glad I also have a Eumig dual. I've only got 2 optical prints.

janice, you're right, (about the model number), and I'll PM you with my e-mail address, and many thanks to you, Our Good lady of the Celluloid!!

P.S. Have you had any problems janice, with the projector being a little touchy with dust? My only slight complaint of the projector is that the knobs and sound system seem to have trouble with dust.

Osi...I sent you the manual. As far as the dust issue...No, I haven't had any excessive dust with mine. However, I do keep all my projectors covered with plastic bags. I happen to have an original cover for my P810 which keeps it relatively dust free. I've noticed that 8mm projectors tend to be much more sensitive to dust than 16mm.

The Yashica has landed. It's in spectacular shape although you don't expect the belts would be would you?! After a thorough cleaning and de-tar-belting, I'm searching for belts. I should've just done that already and had them onhand. DOH! Good news is the optical lamp lights good although I' ve got no idea how hou get in there to change that. Also wondering if it's supposed to be lit when the projector isn't running but the optical lever is moved to opt.? Seems like it should only be coming on when the projector is running? What does yours do Janice?

It also came with the original box, the cover, take up reel and microphone. Pretty cool!

Congrats Jeff on receiving your new projector. Yes ... the exciter lamp will turn on when switched to optical... even if the motor isn't running. Exciter lamps (at least on my 16mm projectors) seem to last a long time and I haven't had to replace mine in the P810. I can't give you any guidance on how to get to the bulb. I guess I should check it out myself...I can't imagine it's too difficult. I actually don't use the optical feature. I only have one Super8 optical film I use for testing....and it has an Italian sound track [Smile]

I've been inside the thing cleaning out the tar/rubber, dust, etc and noticed the electronics connections and think this looks suspicious. Can either Osi or Janice look inside your machines, just like when you change a belt, with the four screws on the back and tell me if yours looks the same? I know I'm asking a lot but would like to know if this is correct or not. You are the only two on the planet I know with the same machines! If you notice, on the top right there is what looks like a fuse holder but with a wire soldered between the terminals. Also, there are two more towards the lower left underneath the plug. If these should be fuses, what values are they? Makes me wonder what else?! If the photo doesn't work I'll keep trying.

My power board looks pretty much identical to yours. There is no fuse .... just the bridged wire.

If after you get your new belts installed you find the speed is running too slow or fast...you can adjust the pots on the speed board.
