Does anyone know where I could buy a take up belt for my Yelco DS 630 MS from ? I know that it is possible to measure uncommon belts to have them specially manufactured or to solder oneself but I'm not good at that so I would like to find an existing belt. http://van-eck.net/itable.php?lang=en&size=0&cat=film&merk=175&type=Sound DS 630 MS

What does it look like Dominique?

Is it a round profile or a square profiled belt?
Is it smooth or ribbed?
Does it have teeth?

What dimensions?
Diameter?
Thickness?

Most plain belts can be matched easy enough from decent engineering merchants or washing machine / white goods spare parts distributors.

It is the large belt that is seen on the sixth "Van Eck" photo. My belt is still in my projector as it is not broken (yet) but not anymore firm enough to correctly move the take up arm. It is a round model but I don't know the lenght and the thickness. If I cannot find a genuine belt, I guess I will have to try to measure everything.

Van Eck has not this belt for sale, otherwise I would of course have purchased it from them. I'm surprised it is so hard to find. I thought this projector was common.

I don't believe any Yelco model can be termed common these days Dom.

It may just be the same one as on some of the other similar Yelco models but really you need to remove it while it is still just about serviceable to allow you to find another by measuring it before the original one fails on you.

Thank you Thijs for your suggestion but the Pallas Van Eck's page says : "This movie projector is the Yelco Sound DS 810", not the DS 630 MS. What's more, they don't advertise belts on the Pallas'page

5 years before I had to change the motor belt ( bought at Wittner )- the new belt is still OK.
I also bought a belt for the take-up spool ( as a replacement part )- but the old belt in the machine is still OK.
Changing the belt for the take-up spool could be difficult, changing the motor-belt is easily be done.

Plenty of options then Dominique including good old Wittners for those with deep pockets.

By the looks of things, the Wittners belts are highly reliable though and very good quality.

Sometimes, buy cheap means you buy twice, then where is the saving?

Andrew, I have to admitt Wittner is not cheap at all. What's more, they charge you extra money if you order for less than 40 euros (for what reason ?) so I ordered also a motor belt. If I had found a ready to use belt cheaper I would have bought it but as Wittner seem to be one of the few suppliers for this particular item, I took the plunge (it's also a way to support them). I'm just happy my projector is still working and it is still possible to find a belt for it. I wanted to buy some Beaulieu spares as, sadly enough, they will be unavailable soon but it is a high invest so I will still wait before taking a decision regarding that.

Bad new, the belt arrived this morning but the take up belt is not the same as mine : it is much smaller. I've sent an e-mail to Wittner. I hope it was just a mixed up in the packing and they have the right belt.

Unforseen developpment : I got this answer from Wittner : "Please open the plastic bag and remove the long belt. It is an optical illusion. There is one long belt inside, not two short belts." i opened the bag and it was indeed a big belt. Not without difficulties (due to the conception of the projector), I replaced my old belt with the Wittner one and it works perfectly !

Well done Dominique and as Bill recently posted, the time has now arrived when we simply have to learn to do more for ourselves where projector repair is concerned.

The projector technicians available now in this era here in the UK, are taking on less and less these days as time continues to pass.
