Hi everyone. 1st post here, please bear with me. I have two or three Super8 films ... 2 on 1200 foot spools, one on 600 foot (I think those are right - but probably not relevant for this discussion).

I also have another half dozen 8mm reels.

I'm trying to do a cheap mans conversion from movie to digital by showing the movies on a screen and then using my DSLR to record them; this has worked OK on the 8mm reels.

What I *don't* have is a Super8 projector that will accept the S8 reels I have ... I have a dual 8 Chinon that I got off eBay thinking it was the thing I needed, but the reels I have absolutely do not fit on the axles (hubs?) on that projector for either supply or takeup.

This is driving me crazy. I've tried a variety of supposedly Super 8 takeup reels on the Chinon, but none of them will fit the axle; I've tried the full Super 8 supply reels I have, but none of them will fit the supply axle either.

The hole on the S8 supply reel I have is 13cm diameter, and it has 3 slots in a more or less "y" configuration; this reel DOES fit on the supply axle BUT those slots are not cut all the way through, so the supply reel can't fit all the way onto the axle.

The axle on the S8 takeup axle is to me very weird. It's got a diameter of approximately 13cm (same as the HOLE on the supply reel), and the slots line up, but again ... the reel won't fit al the way on because the slots are not going all the way through.

All in all, this is VERY confusing to me and all I want to do is digitize those S8's to digital. I'd never have thought this would be this difficult.

Oh, for what it's worth, the Chinon is a model 727.

Can anyone give me any sort of guidance on this?

You're unlucky there my friend, you've got one of those Gawd awful reels with only slots on one side by the sounds of things,one which limits your use of these reels to projectors such as the ST 1200 etc

You need to get hold of a better reel where the slots go from front to back first. Preferably one with a solid hub also

Is it perhaps a Goldberg spool?

I also don't think your 727 will take a 1200ft spool, so you may have to split the film onto 2 x 600ft spools first.
