Goodmorning Beaulieu's Fans,
Embedding of "Frequencemeter/Speedometer" inside Beaulieu Projector is progressing ...........Quietly
Here is a picture showing the system at work (the Infra-red sensor doesn't appears).
The Frequencemeter is powered by a small Regulation Card which pick up a few Amp from lamp coils.
The frequencemeter is just behind the aluminium liner and the acrylic green glass (3mm thickness).
Next step is to manage a window on the rear cover, so only the aluminium liner & glass externaly appears once all is installed.
I take the opportunity to specially thanks J-C GRINI from "Le Transfert de pellicule" French Forum, who engineered the system (Very good Electronical Engineer) and drove me to carry out the job.

To be note this device can work for any kind of machine showing, 1 blade ("Half Moon" Shape) , 2 blades or 3 blades as Well..........Providing you get room enough in your machine.
It costs me around 50 Euros (Approx) for components and printed boards included ....
The bebefits are :

- Allow you to monitor permanently regulation health for BEAULIEU machines

Tell him I will take a kit from him Phil if he can provide me one built with connecting instructions into the new year.
It would look great fitted and provide a very accurate reference for lip synchronization.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate.
As you know, I am a beginner in Electronic World, learning step by step .
I am afraid J-C GRINI is very busy to do a kit. But if you like playing with a soldering iron, I can send you the schema ready to make both small PCB (we call TYPON in French, is it same in English?).
The only specific point is PIC16F876A which need to be load with a small program. J-C done it for me (Post and Return) graciously.
Otherwise, If you know somebody who has PIC Programming device (USB port or other), I think he can send the file.
Let me know if you need to install it as I described, I mean cutting Rear Cover and fitting an outside thick Aluminium liner with green glass....
When I get more time , I make a détailled instruction, more particularly as I need to install sloted wheel on the main shaft, close to "coil" gear.... (better than using signal from shutter blades)

Hi Phil, some great work. I notice the circuit uses a photo interrupter, where does this fit, and does the circuit connect to the reed switch already fitted to the beaulieu ?. This would make an excellent addition to the beaulieu, I would also be interested in more details in a view to building one. This could be adapted to the goko rm8008 editor to make it able to sync sound to film, with perhaps an easy retro fit with a plug in the back panel.

The system works with this infra Red sensor (LED) :
The device is completely independent from BEAULIEU components, so retrofit is easy to do.
The only thing is that I pick up a small Amp amount from coil dedicated to the lamp....
As I tell Andrew, when I get more time , I put more details on paper

That's it Phil, part of a chopper circuit. What passes through this in your circuit?. These are used in moving head lighting effects in the feedback circuit. Relays info back to tell the mother board where the head is at any one time in its x y z, but a slotted wheel goes between the posts. It would need at least another source ( like the reed switch ) in coming to act as a comparator circuit to match the incoming pulses and stay locked in. If this is a couple of circuits utilised to do this then this has some potential on other projectors if it could be simplified to fit all. Really great work guys.

At this time this device is just a tool to monitor speed with great accuracy (range is 0,4 - 99,99 hz) . it has not been developped for synchro functions.
I only fit a single coding wheel on the main shaft. I made tests with sensor working directly with shutter blades ........but unfortunately, when lamp is powered on, signal is polluted by light beam. Sensor installation in Shutter area requires to isolate it from light and may be putting black strip on blades too.....

It would work better with an inductive or capacitive proximity switch or sensor on the actual shutter blades, no doubt Phil.
Then of course, not light sensitive.
No doubt the reed switch built in can be utilized though to get a speed reference from.

Hi Andrew,
I haven't made any test using reed switch already installed in Beaulieu and to connect to this device.
I had already observed that signal coming out from a small plug (Back cover) was polluted by 50hz frequency (due to the big transformer very closed to).
Anyway quality of signal offered by this Infra Red sensor (cf picture) is much , much better (perfectly squared signal).....cheap money and easy to find too.
Observe also that this Sensor plate comes with 2 witness LED (Red and Green) Red when powered on Green one for signal

Yes,no doubt a much purer pulse signal obtained.
Have you turned your pc into an oscilloscope to monitor these square wave signals Phil? Or do you own an oscilloscope?
The Bauer uses a similar component plus a serrated plastic wheel to feedback the exact frame count to the microprocessor.
The frames are then consecutively counted up or down on an LED display of course, and the machine can transport itself backwards and forwards to any precise frame before halting for precise home movie recording purposes.

I have not oscilloscope at this time. I just spoke with J-C GRINI who confirms me the very good performances of such sensor.
J-C is using oscilloscope and other kind of benches of course.
An other projector fitted with Infra led sensor is ELMO GS1200.
Sensor is fitted on main shaft and its actuating blade is "half Moon" shape.
