Hello to All,

I am new to this forum.

I recently acquired a very less used ELMO GS1200 from a seller in Germany ( 250V ). The unit is in a very good condition and has been stored for a long time without use.

I do not have a film to test the same but have ordered a few on line. The problem that I am facing is that the main fuse keeps blowing off. It runs and all the functions works without the film for now. But when I switch it off and restart after 2 - 3 times the fuse ( 250V 3.15A ( F ) ) blows off.

What could be the problem. Any help is highly appreciated.

It's many many years ago now since I visited the U.A.E.
Does your mains socket contain an earth terminal and is the plug wired to match European standard to begin with?
I.e. is live going to live on the PJ and the same for the Neutral? Are they crossed over maybe?

I'd imagine your using a 50Hz 250v supply. Is this correct?

Hello Andrew,

The wall plug sockets are with earth provisions. The main power cable that I received with the unit is a 2 pin plug with a 3 pin female on the other end ( like the computer cable ) that goes into the projector.

The voltage here is 230V 50Hz.

In that case then, it appears it is nothing too obvious.
Look at bridge rectifier and large capacitors for shorting issues or if you feel the item may have been stored in damp conditions for any length of time check out even the transformer for insulation resistance test etc etc.

To be honest though, it could be one of many different things until the main circuits are broken down a little to process eliminate the issue.

Hello Andrew,

I looked at the power cord received along with the unit , as you had mentioned it has the plug with European standard with female earth pin. I was plugging the same into a 2pin wall socket so no earth. Could this be the problem ?

I will purchase a new power cord today with 3 pin plug and check with new fuse.

Hello Mathew,

Using a 3wire cord in a two pins socket wall, is not the cause of youre problems. The only problem is that you have no grounding of your projector. How fast do you switchoff and restart? Wait 15s and then retry. Are there any possibilities to look inside the projector? Look for electric connections with corrosion etc.

Is this an internal fuse. If so make sure you haven't replaced a normal or slow blow fuse with a fast blow type. Starting currents can be a lot higher than running ones.

Hello Andrew,

I think you were right. I was using the supplied power cord ( euro version ) here in UAE the wrong way. I bought a new cord with a 3 pin plug ( including neutral ) and connected the ELMO and run it without a film in all positions and even switched On / Off many times and now the fuse will not blow. As mentioned the unit is in a very good condition with no sign of any corrosion , leaky of components etc it looks as good as new. However considering the age and it was stored for so long without use , I will definitely give a check to all the electronics.
Is a 250V version service manual available . I have downloaded one from the net but its the 110 version. In the process of fuse blowing the Bulb ( ESC 24v 200 w original ) also blew off and I have ordered the EJL version.

Thank you for the advise to look into the problem. Will keep posted once I get the films etc.

I have a service manual for the GS1200, bought from :-

110--230v.
