I'm happy to say that I finally won a print of this yesterday, (it's a cartoon print I have been looking for, for years, either people have just been holding onto this specific cartoon for years, or it's a rare printing).

My question is, who released this on Super 8? My hopes are either Red Fox or Derann films, but I honestly don't know.

Any help, folks?

I don't know about Red Fox but it was a Derann release. Stunning print really eye watering sharpness and great colour. Look out for the sequel Rural Red Hot Red Riding Hood.

For the record, the titles are actually:

RED HOT RIDING HOOD
LITTLE RURAL RIDING HOOD

I have Red Hot Riding Hood but sadly the box and leader give no indication of its origins. The print is OK but the master materials are a little beaten, with the copyright information under the MGM lion scribbled across. I also have 'Little Rural Riding Hood' which is a Derann release of red fox materials (from the leader), and far superior. I remember showing the latter at a christmas film show I do every year at a railway society. They usually get a T& J, and have a laugh, just before the interval. But on this occasion it met with silence, possibly the cartoons subject matter and doses of adult humour not being expected!

it sounds as if there may have been two releases of Red Hot Riding Hood, as, one appears to be a stunning Derann release ( i hope I HOPE the print I've got coming is the derann0, but the other one sounds as if another company released it as well, from inferior source material. Fingers crossed. I already have "Rural' with very good color, but printed just a tad bright.

I bought my copy of "Red Hot Riding Hood" second-hand from Derann in May 1996 (£9.99) which came in a white box. It's on SP stock and the colour is not great but it's acceptable for a cartoon.
There is a black bar under the MGM Lion which is what Martin may refer to. There's no indication of origin on the leader but it does say 16mm sound, presumably its source.
It's a great 1943 cartoon from Tex Avery in which Red is an adult night-club dancer.
I certainly recommend it.

I'll end up doing a review on this cartoon, as it's always been a favorite of mine. I think "Red" was much better in this first cartoon. more cartoony, great animation, very bouncy, and the story-line surrounding the cartoon is great as well.

Hope the Kodak SP (if it's that) is not faded. Fingers crossed.

It does say 16mm sound on my copies leader as well so I would concur that my copy is the same as Maurice's. You can't beat a good Tex Avery!

My copy is in a Derann box printed in magenta with the title and MGM with a low quality outline picture. It has on the leader Title Red Hot Riding Hood Version CRI. Pre-stripe stock with no edge marking to identify as far as I could see, very good colour.

Please note that the Red Fox logo and sign just my made up, it does not mean the title was printed by Red Fox.

What I knew I got the whole bunch of these rare titles from someone in the USA which majority of his reels were bought from Red Fox. So I was guessing that this was also the case.

Hey folks, look at this, someone actually designed a "Red" that is CGI, this only runs a grand total of 16 seconds, but the CGI animator stuck precisely with the classic animated Red and i must say that I was somewhat impressed. love to see this person do the whole sequence ...

I finally get the original cover of this Red Hood print.

So, it is a Red Fox print as I have thought. Deraan was only distributing it.

Winbert they all say that on them. They were all printed by Derann from 1987 onwards. A flag of convenience. If I remember correctly Red Fox didn't have the mauve cover that was a Derann design same as All those imports from Moviola.

I LIKE that bopx more than the earlier Derann/Red Fox box, personally. Since my copy is coming on a 400ft reel, I doubt I'll have the original box though.

Just to add, i have received the film in thw mail, and it is indeed L.P.P. film stock, and it is that one that has that little thing at the bottom of the MGM logo that blocks things out. Great print to have!!!
