I'm looking forward to this, and to presenting the Scopitone show, which I think will be a UK first. These highly-entertaining musical shorts on 16mm with magnetic soundtracks are occasionally shown in the cinemas in the USA, but are less well known in the UK. The majority in the show will be in stunning Technicolor.

1'm curious with regard to the difference between the "standard" and "special" admission?

My carer's duties for my mother (who will reach the grand old age of 90 later that week)permitting, I am hoping to attend this much welcome event.

After some 24 years away from this truly wonderful and magical pastime I am really looking forward to any 8mm convention that I am able to attend! [Smile]

I will be there. I picked up information at the Rickmansworth event which included a map showing the school location - just down the road and a left turn from the Underground station in Croxley.

Looking forward to seeing you all there. It's been a bit of a whirlwind since I decided to go ahead with the convention and a lot of people have been very busy preparing!

Simon McConway and Mark Norton have put together Super 8 shows for Screen 1, that includes a great variety of items, hopefully something for all. I'll put some details about the 9.5mm, 16mm and 28mm shows in the relevant sections.

I know there is great mystery about the £8 Special; well I would have liked to charge £8 for everyone. The main reason being, that it will help ensure the future of the Big Screen Time Revival. I know that not everyone is able to stretch to this so offered a lower basic price. As a Thank You to hopefully the majority, I have put together a goodie bag, that includes several specially made gifts and a voucher to use at the cafe. [Smile]

For the first 50 or so there is also a glossy brochure about an interesting local development at Denham!

Not long to go, 15 dealers in attendance, all gauges. Six shows in two screens on Super 8, 9.5mm, 16mm, and even 28mm. Local accommodation 4 minutes away. Hope to see lots of you there.

What a great day ! I was impressed by the organization. For a first edition, I expected some little problems here and there but it seems that David was extremely well prepared.

The inauguration. If I understood well, the man with the cisors is Geoff Wheeler, the former organizator of the Big Screentime. At the right of the picture, David Tatham who is making the revival.

Where else than in convention can you see so many films for sale ?

And a bit of a forum members get together with Dominique, Adrian Winchester and myself together round the projector after Adrian's Scopitone talk and films. Also good to see Keith Wilton there, looking happy and taking pictures. It seems this did at least break even so high hopes for more of them in future years.

As Brian pointed out, the projections were another attraction of the event. I was very happy to see that, unlike in other film convention, there has not been one single second of digital projection. It was film only as it should be.

The first projection was a 28 mm one. Chris Bird used his 100 year old projector successfully ! You don't see often 28 mm projections, that was fantastic.

The picture was bright for an old projector.

There was a second projection room where super 8 films (flat and scope) were projected with an Elmo GS1200 and also 16 mm at the end of the day (I missed the last minutes as I had a train to catch and there were problems on the metro net in London).

David Wyatt, well known by the British ninefivers, did a 9.5 sound projection without problem although a problem with the capacity of a take up spool. The audience did not notice anything.

In the same room, an interesting scopitone show was held. Most of them in Technicolor ! It seems that the scopitones in English were shooted on a very different way than the French ones. One French scopitone was shown. The singer is Stella and had some success in the '60. She made mostly parodic like songs. The one projected was "Si vous connaissez quelque chose de pire qu'un vampire" (If You Know Something Worse Than A Vampire"). I'm talking about this title because it has an anti-British singers sentence (Stella had another song in which she defended French songs). I couldn't help laughing when she said it as nobody else in the room I think understood French. In all the song she says that she's looking for blood, fear and so on. Then comes : "And when sometimes I dream of my charming prince, he won't need to be handsome, to be tall. So long as he is British and singer, I will remain in the horror field". [Big Grin]

I want to ad that the days was also a success thanks to the excellent food that was provided all the day long at reasonable cost. That's important when you spend the day somewhere. A few years ago, there has been a lot of complains at the Argenteuil film fair because the people who sold food changed and it was not as good as before.

I do hope there will be many more editions to come.

I can't add much to the very positive report and photos from Dominique, but I also thought it was an exceptionally good day, with entertaining and unusual shows and a good turn out of dealers. There was a friendly mood and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. There were no shortage of bargains; I obtained a total of nine 8mm sound shorts from Perry's and Nigel Higgins - all new or excellent condition - for a mere £15! Great to see BST founder Geoff Wheeler involved. Very impressive catering with about eight different types of cake as well as baked potatoes, sandwiches, etc. It was a brave move to try and bring back BST in a new venue, so compliments to David and his very supportive family, as the quality of the event reflected all the hard work and care put into it. With a 2018 BST scheduled for May, it's great that we don't have to wait a year for the next one!

This was a great day out, but the dealers hall between shows was very packed, perhaps David can look into using another room or two if he comes back with it next year, as one of the dealers said to me she thought it might get dangerous if too many are in the one room at one time, thankfully I only heard a tray go over on the day, nothing serious, but at times between shows it was very busy.
I thought the extra £3 was terrific value, you got a 'Mickey Mouse' carrier back, a high quality book about Denham Film Studios, a pen inscribed thanking you for supporting the Big Sceen Time Revival, a badge, a key ring, and a voucher for a FREE Tea or Coffee with a piece of cake, not bad for £3 extra (this was to the first 45 who paid the £8 entrance).
I saw and talked to many of my friends, saw some great shows, and had a great day out, all for £8, what more can you say, only looking forward to the next one (Here's Hoping!).

I thoroughly enjoyed the day and also wish to thank David Tatham and his family & helpers for putting on such a great event - I could not get there until nearly 12 noon so missed some of the earlier shows but caught the Super 8 'scope show and Adrian's excellent Scopitone show and talk and both were excellent in content and presentation. Having watched amazed at Adrian's Scopitone films I now call Technicolor 'Tech-Nicker-Colour' instead as there was so much underwear and minimal beachwear in view worn by the dancing ladies in these very catchy 60's musical jukebox films. Certainly a fascinating genre to collect.

It was also a pleasure to chat with personal cine friends Bill Parsons and Nigel Lister, and meet up with Martin Dew for the first time too - not forgetting Ian, Keith & Raj, etc.

Purchase wise my main guage now is 35mm so buying a lovely full carrier bag of 35mm trailers for £20 (the equivalents on Super 8 would cost about £200) and a superb pair of 4000ft 35mm rewinds for £25 sealed the day as a great success for me - just those rewinds alone have since saved me so many trips from the shed back and forth to the cinema as my larger Rigbys can stay in the cinema permanently now.

Excellent quality and very keenly priced catering too - plus the free delicious cake and coffee (full size mug not a wibbly wobbly plastic cup) included in the £8 Special entrance price it made the day even more perfect.

Already counting down the days to next year's event in May 2018.

It's a new event in location and organiser team terms, but is named Big Screen Time Revival as it follows on from Geoff Wheeler's original Big Screen Time days he ran for many years until 2012.

I can only reiterate what everyone else has already said, but I'd also like to pass on my thanks to David Tatham and his family for organising this excellent event. What was particularly noticeable was how friendly the event was, also a tribute to David.

I particularly enjoyed the Movietone and docs show in the morning, a selection of Simon McConway's intriguing films, including an old Eumig promotion, the piece about Perry's and Derann, and the demise of the trams.

I had to leave by lunchtime, but I will definitely be staying for the whole gig in May.
