I was aware of this service for 16mm but it looks like this service is now available for S8 film. Good news.
I have had several titles over the years which originated from Germany where the striping was falling off, this service is very welcomed.
Here is a video based on their 16mm striping.

Our very own Alberto from this forum is offering this service.

Hello Alan,
yes...good news !!!! From today, we can do magnetic striping for Super 8mm too, main and balance track were stereo recording is possible. The quality standard is the same as that already available for 16mm film magnetic striping.
The prices of super 8 films to stripe the prices also are are the same .
But super 8, regularly has half lenght than 16mm ... so, for example the striping of one full lengh super 8 film of 4 reel x 180 mt each = 60 euros , washing of film = 10 euros . So, on this example, total due for one full lenght super 8 film = euro 70,00.
We also are ready for your next 16mm magnetic striping of course :-)

Alberto - I have one or two Scopitones (i.e. 16mm with magnetic sound) that look great but unfortunately have badly recorded sound. If I was able to supply the Scopitone along with the same version of the song on CD, could you do a recording in sync, ending with a quick fade out when the film ends, if it's slightly shorter than the recording?

What's important ... our work of magnetic striping on super 8mm films is executable both in polyester and triacetate film

Matthieu van der Sluis.... yes of course. We can make professional magnetic striping on super 8 too..., main and balance track were stereo recording is possible, on polyester and acetate ;-). Important: liquid magnetic paste (new stock) is applied to the film, so reliable and durable in time, non-laminated magnetic, which inevitably tends to detach itself after some time.

I am resurrecting my old thread instead of starting a new one, I am having Alberto add stripping and re-record a 16mm title for me in English. Talking with Alberto I found out his stripping service has advanced. They now have a new magnetic paste, brown exactly like the one used by Kodak back in the good days of the Kodak prestriped. The new paste is reproduced in the laboratory matching the original formula. The result is unthinkable peaks in terms of audio stereophonic on S8/8/16.
There is also a new magnetic striping machine that applies the new magnetic paste with incredible accuracy and a new high precision nozzle that combined with the new paste brings the stripping process to a new level.
If that was not enough, they can now also remove the old gray faulty magnetic track present on many of the latest Derann releases.
I am happy to see this service being offered and see it has advanced, Film is not dead, congrats to Alberto.

Hi Alan,
it was a pleasure to do magnetic striping for you (not re-record).
I would like to clarify that the service to remove the faulty gray tracks of Derann and the consequent new application of the magnetic striping with good brown tracks has a truly amazing effect.
All those interested in this service can write for information and costs to: moviemagnetic@gmail.com . Here you can instead see how the processing takes place, which is now available for the 16mm and also for the super 8 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEgyDMLwu1s&t=194s

Whats the song in the video?
Posted by Alberto Carlo Vangelisti (Member # 5200) on April 26, 2018, 01:37 PM:
Hello Brad...The song in the video is the soundtrack of "Even Angels Eat Beans" (Anche gli Angeli Mangiano Fagioli) , with Bud Spencer and Giuliano Gemma.
I hope you are also interested in my magnetic striping work ;-)

Just want to say that I'm amazed at the good quality work that Alberto does!
I just had my German 16mm library print of Dr. Strangelove striped and rerecorded back to English. The sound is sharp and sync, and it's a pleasure watching it in a language that I understand!
I can highly recommend this service!
Thank you, Alberto!

Thanks Sven, it was nice to do magnetic striping on which you made the re-recorded on such an important 16mm film as "Dr. Strangelove". It is also nice to work on the super 8 ... in these days I removed the defective gray tracks of Derann from the two extracts from the film "Gladiator" for the collector Stefano Medda, which here I thank for his trust in my work.I did the same job for another collector who had the same problem on another important Derann movie: "The Magic Box" ... Below the reels photos as they appear now.
Those interested in further information can write on the email: movimagnetic@gmail.com

I confirm the excellent work done by Alberto. Thanks to its effort we have again the possibility of obtaining an amazing stereo sound quality, even on polyester. Forget the gray stripes from Derann!

What is the price for striping and rerecording a 400" reel of film, mono or stereo?
The rerecording from let say German to English is only possible if the same movie is on DVD, am I right?
Still, for Super8 the films are cut, so it is a hell of a job to make this the same.
So can I afford this, or is this only for the richer people?
I understand, it is cheaper for the more popular films, so you can re-use the record.

Hello Matthieu,
these are the answers:
1) I can only stripe also Super 8 optical prints with magnetic stereo stripe (not re-record).
2) yes, I confirm, I can remove the badly applied track and correctly reapply professional magnetic striping in stereo.
This service is born just thinking about collectors, so the costs are really at a minimum dear Matthieu... so:
removal of the old magnetic track by processing the film in the machine under dedicated liquid from 60 meters (minimun footage) to 720 meters of film..... = 50,00
These are the prices of the magnetic striping stereo services:
magnetic striping (two tracks, for possible stereo re-record)
from 60 meters (minimum footage) and no more than 300 meters of film = 30,00
from 301 meters to 480 meters of film ....................................................... = 50,00
from 481 meters to 720 meters of film ........................................................= 60,00
washing pre-magnetic striping from 60 meters (minimum footage) and no more than 300 meters of film = 5,00
washing pre-magnetic striping from 301 meters to 720 meters of film...................................................... = 10,00
Some examples:
1) if you want do magnetic striping on your feature optical print assembled on 4 reels x 180 meters this is the cost: euro 60,00 (magnetic striping of 720 meters) + 10 euro (washing pre-magnetic striping), the cost will be euros 70,00
2) if you want remove old magnetic stripe from your feature 4 reels x 180 meters + reapply professional stereo magnetic stripe + re-record in your language this is the cost : euro 50,00 (removal of the old magnetic stripe) + euro 60,00 (magnetic striping of 720 meters) + 10 euro (washing pre-magnetic striping) the cost will be euros 120,00
Payment through PayPal or through bank transfer
I can do all this on 16mm film too
this is the sddress were you can send your film to obtain magnetic striping:

That's amazing.
The filmprints I have here are not worth it, but now we can buy a less expensive Derann LPP from another language, if they look really good.
The sound will be even better after this service.

Alberto recently striped about 1500' of super 8mm for me, and I can confirm the excellent results. And the balance stripe is quite wide as well, which is excellent! I have some S8mm striped prints where the balance stripe is this incredibly thin, tiny line and Alberto's balance is nice and substantial! The quality of the recorded sound is excellent in terms of s/n ratios, drop-outs, etc. I'll definitely be sending him more striping as my needs arise!
Posted by Joe Taffis (Member # 4) on April 17, 2019, 11:37 AM:
David, Does the wider balance stripe affect the image size?
Posted by Adrian Winchester (Member # 248) on April 18, 2019, 07:59 PM:
Surely the balance stripe cannot affect the image size, considering the sprocket holes are in-between the stripe and the image?
