A reminder to owners of the Elmo GS-1200 that the correct ESC lamps are available on UK eBay. They are quite expensive but these appear to be new from the Nantong Donar company in China. The filament in the ESC is designed to cover the small Super 8 frame.
The seller says that the ESC are now obsolete.
While the EJL lamp will fit electrically, it's designed for 16mm use and as such the filament covers the larger 16mm frame.
The photo appears to show that the lamp has a brown cast. This is just a poor photo. I have bought some lamps and can say that they are quite alright.

Yes I heard that the EJL lamp heats the gate too much as well. One suggestion made at the Big Screen Scene Revival was to mount the EJL further back than the ESC. I have no idea of the validity of this idea as I don't the geometry of the cone of light from the lamps.

I have written a post on the Donar ESC lamps available in the states, for those of you in the USA. I believe it's here, but also in the other 8mm forum.

I have 4 of these ESC Donar lamps.
I've never seen my projector with an origenal Fuji, so I cannot say how they compare.
I can comparre my GS1200 MKIII with my Bauer T610 that has a 150W Xenophot which looks brighter and whiter, so I was about to order a Fuji ESC, but I have to pay big time.

The Fuji ESC lamps were available in the UK some years ago from Bart Smith of Blue Cine Tech. But that supply seems to have finished, so the new Donar lamps, whist expensive, are filling the gap.
The UK seller on eBay also offers (on a separate listing) a pack of five lamps which work out cheaper overall.
I didn't mention the availability of the Donar lamps in the US as this was covered a few weeks ago on this Forum.

Which way is the filament supposed to run on the ESC lamp, along the optical axis of the projector or perpendicular to the optical axis? And if perpendicular to the optical axis, should it be mounted with the filament horizontal or vertical?

Here in Germany you canīt get this 200W ESC Lamp. And the Fujis from Wittner are to expensive.
So the best alternate Lamp is the Philips ELC 24V/250W for the GS 1200. Because of setting the Lampholder back 10mm and use an external regulating Transformer from 22 to 26 Volts. So I have made this one for my machines which I can regulate without any Step to the best Voltage for the used Lamp. The Transformer in this Case has 400W.

I don't think that Wittner have any Fuji ESC lamps left in stock as they do not come up on their web-site.

The lamps from the American company, as refereed to, are cheaper than those from the UK eBay seller.
However, there could be an extra charge in the UK from Customs & Excise for an import from outside of the EU.

Matthieu, to give you an idea, a German company does that job for 65 euros but of course you must add the shipping costs http://www.ffr-film.de/index.php?page=elmo&language=eng

Dominique, I did not understand, what to send to do the transformation? The projector?
Posted by Paul Adsett (Member # 25) on November 11, 2017, 10:30 AM:
Now I'm confused. The Ansi specification for the ESC bulb clearly requires that the axis of the filament coil to be oriented along the optical axis of the projector. Yet my Fuji ESC bulb has the filament oriented sideways, that is perpendicular to the optical axis, as in the EJL lamps. So what is going on here? Are EJL's being rebadged as ESC's?
Here's the ANSI drawing for the ESC:

Dominique!!!! it will cost a fortune in shipping!!!
Posted by Dominique De Bast (Member # 3798) on November 11, 2017, 10:52 AM:
I would not say a fortune as there are other companies cheaper than La Poste but that would indeed have a cost. It may be interesting if you send the projector for other transformations at the same time suche as replacing the blades shutter.

Here is the link for ESC Donar bulbs within the USA:

I have ordered from them and have no trouble running the lamp.

Dominique Wearing 5 Coils more round the internal Transformer is the easy but not the right Way. If you play Films with a longplay Unit over two hours without a brake the overheating of the Transformer is still there. There are two Ampere more that the Transformer must cary on between 200 and 250 Watts.

Ha Thomas. No Dominique refers to a conversion with an extra 400W travo added and a 250W Xenophot placed 10m more backwards.
Thank you Dominique. I placed your reply in my conversion topic here:

@Chip. You compared this lamp to the origenal Fuji ESC and they are the same?
