Exists a projector that have optical and magnetic sound for Super 8 and a dual option for the two gauge, so magnetic sound of Normal 8?

Optical sound for both gauge in same projector does't exist, maybe, because the optical sound for Normal 8 is a very different technical method.

I have never heard of a dual projector that can play optical and magnetic sound. I would think that optical 8 mm films are so rare that no projector manufacturer ever thought of creating such a machine. I'm not sure that there has been so many 8 mm optical projectors. I only know the Fumeo. In super 8, however, as you know, you have more choice...

Wikipedia, when referring to Normal 8mm film says:-
"Optical sound was never specified as the format had insufficient space for an optical track".

AFAIK, 8mm optical sound was not a defined standard, but the main used was made by John Maurer and used in Italy by SanPaoloFilm for the format 8mauer (or OemmeO) at the beginning of the 70s. Projectors were made by Fumeo and Microtecnica and there were both optical version and opt-mag version (for sure for Microtecnica, I'm not sure for Fumeo). SPF relased almost between 40 and 70 films (afaik), both in color and bw and some of them in scope.
The space for the optical track was found reducing the widht of the perforations (8mauer films cannot be run into normal 8mm projectors, while the contrary is possible).

Luigi, an optical/magnetic dual8 projector seems quite difficult to be built, due to the different distance between S8 mag, S8 Opt and Standard8 mag

I was also tempted to buy it!
One time was a page on the internet that explained very well the rare versions of Normal 8 optics, it also had explanatory drawing, but It had disappeared.
Dom, "M" is (M)aurer standard Fabrizio talked about. [Smile]

Returning OT: it's confirmed that if you want the optical sound on Super 8 gauge, the projector will be ONLY Super 8.

Instead, exists a Super 8 optical and not magnetic projector? I don't think, it would be too little used.

Maurizio, I didn't see your message before I posted mine. Yours explains, as Luigi points out, what the m means. Luigi, maybe some projectors built for being used in planes had optical sound only, I don't know.

Elmo gs1200 was available also with optical sound only. If I remember right, Jason from Japan had one for sale some time ago

Checking Japan "ebay", I saw that almost all the Japanese digest and features were with optical sound only, and also the majority of projectors for sale had also optical sound

San Paolo Film began distributing and renting 8mm optical films (8 Mauer) in 1968; over 100 titles were edited.

Fumeo also built optical / magnetic 8mm projector...and well done. Here's one below ... it's mine ;-)

). From the picture it seems that you have to vary the lower loop when using magnetic film, compared to the optical ones. Is it so?

I had no idea this existed Alberto ,I've got a Standard 8mm Magnetic Elmo projector and films but Optical sound is amazing.
There's always something new to discover in this film hobby !
