Hello Everyone!
Is there some sort of listing out there of the misc scenes released by Mountain/Heritage films from the Marx Bros. "A Night in Casablanca"?
I'm pretty sure I've seen the full feature now and again but these 200 and 400 footers show up pretty often.
I have "Acting the Fool" (Harpo in a swordfight with Kurt)
the scene with Harpo and Groucho stuck in the elevator (boith are 200s) and the last scene of the picture with the boys flying an airplane (that's a 400 footer).
Are there any others?

In the Mountain films catalogue that I have from the mid 1970s (I think), it lists the following Marx Brothers films:
Double your money
Playing for laughs
Crazy madness
A night in Casablanca
Love Happy
Pulling strings
Acting the fool
All are described as 'long B/W sound' (200ft) except for:
A night in Casablanca, which was available as 'Long B/W sound or silent', 'Jumbo B/W sound' and 'full length feature 4x400ft spools'.
Love Happy, which was available as 'long B/W silent', 'Jumbo B/W sound', and 'Full length feature 4x400ft spools'.

I have a 200ft of A Night in Casablanca but it is in a plain box so I can't confirm it's origin, bought secondhand from Perrys when they were in Wimbledon. It is mainly the aircraft ending.

I have the 4x400 set on Std. 8mm Sound (wish it was super 8). It's not the entire movie. Some scenes of Groucho at the front desk and I don't recall the sword fighting scene are not included in this set. I'll have to watch it again to confirm.

...or better, try to find the american print, from Ivy. It is complete and of fine quality!

Dammit! Janice, I have the exact same print, but in Super 8. Is it truly edited? It’s the only way I’ve seen it. Never did buy it on DVD or even VHS. This sucks because you rarely ever see the complete version on Ebay other than 16mm.

Update!!
I managed to snag a 4x400 foot version of A Night in Casablanca and here is what I have discovered.
The 200' reel called "Acting the Fool" which has Harpo sword fighting with Kurt is not in the 4x400. I had it, so I spliced it in.
"Pulling Strings" and "Crazy Madness" are both in the 4x400' version.
However...
There is about 10-12 minutes missing. The scene Janice recalled with Groucho at the front desk (flirting with Beatrice who is searching for the Count's toupee) is absent as is Chico and Harpo selling seats at the club and Chico's piano routine. Finally the scene of Groucho returning to the hotel after being run down is gone.
Does anyone know if it is out there? Better yet, does anyone have it for sale?

I never knew that this was released full length! Good to know. I think the 4X400ft flows really well, as it pretty much completely gets rid of the "romantic subplot" or songs and such, and just gives undilluted Marx Brothers.

Hi all,
Its a funny thing but I absolutely love "Night in Casablanca" by the Marx's and consider it one of their best - great gags and atmosphere. Ironically, it was the one movie where Harpo's real hair was used - fluffed up with cotton wool - rather than a full wig.

Hi Gary.
I used to love flicking through those Mountain Film Catalogues and selecting the films that I next wanted to buy before going up to 55,Shaftesbury Avenue in London to then buy what I could afford from my 'wish-list'!
Would you consider scanning-in or photo-copying the catalogue so I can once again enjoy this great Catalogue?
It would be greatly appreciated!
Ali.

I have the Derann reprint of this film, but i do wish that it had some of those snippets that are missing. I mean, it is quite sharp and looks great, but it would be nice to have a more complete version.
Are any of these missing scenes in any of these little 200fts or 400ft digests? (such as the sword fighting scene)?
