Id like to build up some features for uninterrupted viewing on one large reel.
What is the best way to see the tiny frame to make accurate splices?
I tried a flashlight behind the film but the dark scene makes it impossible to see where to make the cut.
Very easy with 35mm, not so easy with S8 and my aging eyes:(

Hi Alan

I always use a magnifying glass for all film work even 35mm [Smile]

Alan
This is the sort of thing I use.

Thank you, Graham & Maurice. I just ordered the Magni-Loupe from Amazon.
The eyes are not what they use to be due to the aging process:(

I was active in Super-8 from about ages 16 to 29 and then from 40 on up.

-something happened in those years away: it's like they made the frame smaller! I can't see a thing now!

(The films still fit the machines so they must have sneaked in and played around with those too!)

I do much better working with an editor-viewer these days.

That's it in a Nutshell Steve:)

I've never considered an editor, maybe its time I look into one.
They must be for us older folks:)

Lately it's like all the staircases have two more steps!

-and everybody's mumbling!

The saddest thing: years ago I had a film I wanted to finish to show our company Christmas night. The film took an extra week at the lab and the deadline was tight.

All day on the 24th I was fighting my editor, it was dim and it wouldn't focus anymore. I stuck to it and finished up just around dinner time.

-opened up our presents the next morning: my wife bought me a new editor! [Roll Eyes]

Maurice, my MagniLoupe Eye Loupe arrived today. Wow I should have had one of these years ago. I now have a bionic eye, thank you!

It's my pleasure. No more squinting. [Smile]

Fujica produced a "Deluxe" version of tape splicer, with light and a magnifying glass integrate.
A jewel!

But I have the other two versions produced by Fujica, the normal one (excellent) and the one for leave space for both magnetic stripes (also balancing), which is a pleasure to see in operation.
