It appears to be a film projector.
A film friend in Australia has just received it with other film stuff.

If it needs to stay flat like this during projection, it looks to me somthing they used in airplanes.
Pretty cool, because it looks a bit like IMAX projection this way.

Quite interesting. it almost looks like a "prototype" of sorts. The in-flight films, as a general rule, were large cartridges that would load into the projectors.

My first post all the way from South Africa! I would also think this is a prototype of some sort. The protruding pulley at the front and the specifically shaped lamphouse looks a lot like my 16mm GEM projector. Would be interesting to know if it operates in a flat position.

Hello,

I agree this looks like a machine which could be used in former Aircraft "long haul".

However they were working with a cartridge.

No doubt this is a professional machine , looks an enduring one !!

The dotted line for the film path looks to large for a moving film, to me...

Here's an update from the new owner ...
Hi Clinton, I just had another look at that mystery, put a super 8 film through the sprockets & gate & all fits & turns perfectly, I cannot see any ' made in any country ' but the lens is Bolex - Switzerland.I still have no power so I will pull it apart & check the fuse.

And just now ... Hi Clinton again, there was a loose wire inside, globe works all sprockets work, speed works but it's noisy, & amazingly the bright pic. on the wall is the right way up how does that work, I thought it would be sideways, all I can say " Amazing " but noisy.

Does it have sound as well?

It probably use a prisma to turn the picture 90 degrees.

Would be nice to show photo's with two large reels on it, and also with working results?

I'm wondering if that big knob at the front left is a "lens shift" joystick arrangement, used for alignment to the screen, and now commonly found on many home video projectors. If that is the case, then it looks like this may well have been used on airlines.

it is indeed a 70mm projectors being discussed there.

I thought the front knob to the left was maybe an inching knob for the film?
He’s got it running and projecting but it’s very noisey so I suggested some oil?
And he will post some pics of it running,I think he’s found something unusual and possibly rare,well rare to be in a personal collection [Smile]

I’m a little bit jealous of him!
