What a great photo. Stand in's they may be but doubles - Never! They were so unique. I just love 'em to bits. I've got nearly all their films on 16mm.
Why would they need stand ins if not for some of their stunts?

A stand in, also known as a double, is used for distance shots, rear views, hands and other body shots not showing the face etc. The star doesn't need to be on the set and can do something else whilst his stand in does the work.

My grandmother liked a Laurel and Hardy film very much, don't know which one it was, but I remember the discusion they had about what animal they wanted to come back reincarnated.
Oliver sais he likes to come back as a peacefull mule.
Stan sais," I want to come back as myself"
Oliver slaps him and say, " that's not possible.
Lateron after both having an acident, Stan is walking alone by himself and Oliver call's him from behind as the Mule he is turned into.

Which film is this?

It's an independantly made partial remake of 'Beau Hunks' from 1931. Probably not considered as one of their best but better than those they made later with 20th Century Fox.
