Upfront I am new to 8mm. I am starting out by rescuing and sorting family films from the 1950s. I plan to move on to 8mm photography as an extension of my still photography interests. I am asking what would be a decent film editor and splicer to use. I see names such as Griswold, Mansfield, etc. I think they were more for serious hobbyists, which is fine for me for a start. I just need some help on what or where would give me reliable use.

For maximum replies I'd suggest you put this in the main 8mm forum not the film print review section, it may go unnoticed here.

Hi Greg and Welcome!
Look for a viewer made in Japan by Sansei Koki. They made the majority of viewers for several different brand names including Elmo, Argus, Aragon, Fujica, Vernon, etc. Get one with the larger screen size...they will have a model number such as 808 or 2808. The smaller screens will have model numbers like 404 or 2404.

I have several videos of similar models on my YouTube Channel. They basically work the same. Some are Super 8mm only...I recommend getting a Dual 8 model unless you only plan on editing Super 8. These viewers you will see frequently on Ebay, Craigs List, and Flea Markets.

For a splicer look for a Kodak Presstapes Universal Splicer. Ebay is also a good source for these splicers and the tapes.

Greg,
Welcome to the 8mm Forum!
Greg, you're now about to start a project similar to one that I just finished. Before I began, I joined this forum and studied the related thread topics and comments as far back as over ten years.
The information available here from this forum is priceless from very knowledgeable and experienced film enthusiasts from around the world (you just heard from one of them, Janice Glesser). Saved me from a world of mistakes and grief on my Super 8 to digital conversion project.
So... read up, and good luck!
