Probably a question for one of our many Eumig experts: the little lamp behind the grille lighting up the audio slider controls on one of my Eumig S938s has failed.

Can anyone tell me if this is an easy replacement and, if so, which lamp I need to swap out?

Me too Martin! About two weeks ago it went out. I'm still looking at how to fix it. If anyone knows the specs and voltage that goes to this little light, please jump in here.

John White told me he has never replaced one, but I've asked my Eumig friends in Vienna if they have any useful information or suggestions.

I have the original service manual which includes electronics board schematics if you'd like me to scan them for you.

Hi Martin. I replaced one of mine last year. It was relatively straightforward as far as I remember. I measured the voltage of the bulb contacts and it was easy to find equivalents online. Please confirm this but the ones I used were 12V 30mA 0.35W. I bought a pack of ten from CES Ltd, 174 Dalkeith Rd, Edinburgh. EH16 5DX.
Please let me know if you have any trouble and I can send you a couple.

Thanks so much Stuart. Did you have to take apart the base of the PJ, or is there a way to unclip the grille?

It looks like CES Ltd. has closed, according to Yelp. I'll certainly confirm the bulb type in the meantime.

I’m pretty sure I reached it from underneath. I will see if I can find any reference pics that I took at the time.

Looks like a car panel lamp to me, certainly the same voltage, they still sell these type of lamps, or similar to Christmas tree lights, you would have a selection of colours if you could find a 12v version......

But more expensive than a led now ...

However, different voltage (6v, 12, etc...) and power (26ma, 30ma...) available, as necessary (check all tabs within this site)

Did you remove the entire top chassis, or do the electronics boards become easily accessible with removal of the steel base panel?

As far as I can recall, If you remove the back cover, detach the multi pin connectors (I believe there are three) and speaker connectors, you can then unscrew the base and the circuit boards are easily accessible. I haven’t had to do it for a few months but don’t remember it being too tricky.

Hi Martin a top tip for you if you tackle the job.
First time I tackled a strip down of a Stereo Eumig some years ago I took the precaution to first colour code with multi-coloured markers all the block connects in the back, both top plug and sockets. The rest is quite a strip down from the base I'm afraid.

First thing I do when working on equipment needing deep repair is this.

Set up a camcorder on a tripod with a clear view of the projector and record the strip down. When you have carried out the repair play the recording backwards to see how it all goes back together again.

If your ever over this way, I have two Eumig 938s if you want them,I'm currently having a clear out of all things cine so if you can collect them then great ,they both did run but haven't tried them for a while,a good source for spares at least,let me know or they are going to the tip,Mark
