To all GS1200 Owners. I ran across this problem a lot! The motors with the removable brushes! In the older models! The motors will get real HOT! Then burn out. If you don't change those brushes.These machines are getting old now! Things are starting to go. So to check the brushes. You have to remove the black caps. Top and bottom. Then pull the brushes out gently! If they look worn ,run down then replace! Also when brushes are out take A cotton swab dipped in alcohol. And stick in the brush opening and take your hand and turn the fan to clean it. Do the top and bottom. You use a few swabs to get it nice and clean! Once it is clean then put the brushes back in! So keep a eye on it!

Thank you Leon. But what does a worn out brush look like? And what do you mean with "run down"? Is it possible to rverse the brush? Thank you.

Maurizio, when you check the brushes. To tell if they are worn the bottom of the brushes will not be smooth. They will have a Grove worn in them. When they are worn to bad it can burn out the motor! The motor will get hot and smell! Older model people keep a eye on it!

Paul, I have to check and see if I have any left! Elmo changed the motors to the brushless ones. That went in the newer models.All motors I have left are new for the newer models GS1200. I have two used motors that are for older models. And they work very good! One good thing about the brush motors they can last for YEARS! I know I have plenty of brushes for the fan motors. I replaced plenty of them in the past! The fan motor go a lot faster than the main motors! We have to do our best to keep these machines going!

Paul, I checked to see if I had any motor brushes for the main motor. I only have one pair left! So those I will keep! If your motor gos then you will have to use the brushless motor! Or unless you can find some motor brushes!

In the Past I bought wo old GS 1200 wich are defective and Worn out. And they have no Main Motor. So I got them very cheap.
To bring them back to Live I need an alterate Main Motor.

It is possible that many owners do not know what carbon brushes look like.

The springs keep the brushes in contact as they slowly wear away. When they get worn nearly as far as the spring contacts it's time for replacements.

I like the brushless motor better! I think it last a lot longer! These motors were in the newer models! Elmo modified them for longer life! I don't think you can get the brushes any more! As for me I only have one pair left! So those with the brush motors keep an eye on it!

I have never seen a brushles Motor in a GS 1200.
Can you show a Picture of this one please.

The GS1200 motor brushless looks just like the one with the brushes. It just does not have the top and bottom black caps on it! Most motors that I replaced are the original ones and these machines are over 40 years old! So that's pretty good!

OK Now I understand what you mean.
I have one of this Motors too. The Brushes are inside on this Motor. You must open it to change them.
