The 19th CineSea Film Collectors gathering is just a month away and once again we'll be screening a film the night before. This will take place at 7:30 PM on Friday, April 26th at the Ocean Holiday Resort in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey. Admission is free.
Let's pick the film! If you're coming to the convention and have a print you'd like to show, Please list the title (up to two per collector) and format (Super 8mm or 16mm) here by 4/12. We'll then have an online survey and attendees can pick which title they prefer by 4/21.
Our previous winner was Gary Sloan's 16mm print of Psycho. The Friday Night Feature started with CineSea 11, and we've shown The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Aliens, Beetlejuice, and House of Wax (3-D!).
My two offerings (I have previously nominated these) are Derann's Shane 1953 (Super 8mm, color, flat) and the Marketing print of Airplane! 1980 (Super 8mm, color, flat).

Why are we nominating 35mm films if the following was stated by Doug?

35mm is nice but I feel too much of it was shown last year and time ran out so people that brought films didn't get an opportunity for theirs to be shown.

Tons of great stuff so far. Jenna and I won't be around until Saturday, due to a wedding. Looking forward to seeing everyone though! If I had to pick I'd have to go with Airplane!(Although I know my vote does not count haha)
Hope to see some 35mm stuff throughout the weekend regardless. There was really some stunning stuff in the Fall.

We've had Standard 8mm, Super 8mm, 9.5mm, 16mm and 35mm, flat, scope and 3-D. Perhaps we can add Polyvision, Emergo, Percepto and Sensurround at some point. Please note: I deliberately left Odorama/Smell-O-Vision off that list.

There should disclaimer the projectionist will not be responsible for any scratches or damages incurred on other parties film during projection.

By the way folks, I have this idea from an old screen shot, as to how you can keep awake while you are watching all those films. That is to do what "My Bean" did, when driving his little mini to the Cannes film festival...

Ironically, I notice you mention Shane in 8mm - I actually acquired Derek Simmonds own personal and first copy of that print...its my favourite western of all time and a lovely print..!
By the way I obtained Derek's "Shane" that copy by swapping him a mint 16mm print - flat - of the Roger Moore, View to a Kill. LLP.
Back in the day when I had some amazing 16mm prints. Enjoy your convention and the enthusiasm you guys all reflect in your posts and conversations is a real joy to read. Mark

Perhaps also that all films submitted should be cleaned and free of staples so that the projectors aren't damaged....

Not at a convention....The collector I bought my Xenon GS from had his projector gate ruined by a film that had a "splice by stapler". He thought it might have been done as a quick fix during a screening and then forgotten.
Mr. Vannicola, you have a choice to make! Please narrow down your three submissions to two films (please keep Black Scorpion in the running....I've never seen it!)

Sorry guys. In my zeal, I accidentally nominated three films instead of two. Oops. Anyhoo, my nominations are The Black Scorpion and Mad Love. Thank you, Brian, I appreciate your help in this matter. By the way, Doug; I think I now know why people staple 8mm film. That's almost as bad as the time I was going to buy a 16mm cartoon reel and noticed the guy had used a band aid for one of the splices. Needless to say I lost interest very quickly.

Brian's point is well taken, however I've found that too many films can spread the vote out and necessitate the need for a runoff. Not a bad thing, just more time is needed. We could still have a runoff if there is a tie between the top vote getters.

My 2 offerings are as follows:
War Games (1983, LPP): Classic Matthew Broderick movie (93% Rotten Tomatoes!)
It Happens Every Spring (B/W, 1949): One of the funniest, (if not the funniest) baseball comedies (100% on Rotten Tomatoes!). Perfect since Baseball season is just starting.
Both choices are in 16mm and both are family friendly for all ages.

Anyone remember that scene towards the end of Maverick (Mel Gibson, 1994), when the Commodore (played by James Coburn)
thinks he has the winning hand, and lights a victory cigar? Only to have Alfred Molina's character show a better hand seconds later?
That's kinda what I felt like with the excitement of my suggestion of War Games.....until Gary pulled out Raiders...in SCOPE! ![[Razz]](tongue.gif)
(To be fair, there were plenty of previous selections that were equal/better candidates than War Games (in my own humble opinion). Personally, I'm drooling at the thought of Raiders in Scope. All the choices so far have been great, but Raiders is one of my all time favorites.
Thought for Doug, Shorty and Lou (and anyone else heading up the CineSea event), was there ever the thought of a 'double feature'? If we started at 7, we could be done by 11:30 with a small intermission between titles (assuming each film is approx. 2 hours). Heck the drive-ins do it, why not CineSea?
Something to think about? Maybe not for this CineSea, but future ones? Or should this idea be taken out to the barn ala a rabid Old Yeller
One thing is for certain....there's no shortage of awesome selections at every CineSea!!!

) In reality, various film(s) are shown throughout Thursday day/night, if for no other reason than to 'dial in' projector distances and do sound setups.
Dave: are you referring to House of Wax 3D? (April 2018). That was a unique situation, due to the special 35mm setup involved. With that exception, I personally don't recall films running past 2 hours, but I have only been attending since April 2017.

The bonus being you will never hear "Why do you bother with all this? Just get Netflix!"
It just bothers me that there are really spectacular sounding prints that should get their time on the big screen: even if not this time, maybe next time or next year.
Example:
My sister is a Nurse: she's worked in the ER (hunting mishaps, car accidents) and OR (amputations, appendectomies, infections, open thoraxes with hearts beating). I think it's fair to say she's not at all squeamish!
-and yet she came home from seeing JAWS in the theater visibly shaken! A couple of days later there was a beer commercial and these guys yanked a trout into a row boat: she literally screamed!
I've seen it any number of times on the small screen. To me it's a great adventure tale, but it didn't scare me at all.
I'm not pretending to be less prone to having the crap scared out of me than my sister, who was literally called "Blood and Guts" when she was undergrad at Hunter/Bellevue! I'm an Engineer: when something dies on us we just buy a new one!
That's why I want to see this movie Ten feet high some day!
-of course the element of surprise is kind of gone...

Sadly another CineSea I have to miss because of prior obligations to my other hobby this Saturday, which unlike film collecting pays for itself. Roustabout is also my favorite Elvis film, and if Todd is selling his print after this screening, let me know, I would be interested! I hope to make the CineSea in October and see everyone again unless it falls on the weekend of October 19th...

David if you took the time to notice I don't have a horse in the race.It was a joke asking for a recount.So I don't give a care who's second. I was only referring to the fact it's funny that a certain person pointed oyt there was a three way tie for second. Like it really matters being tied for first of the losers. What do you want a recount or booby prize?

Nice to see A Hard Day's Night stayed in the running with Jaws & Raiders as it's one of my favorite films.

I know im in the UK and ive nothing against Elvis - but to pick Roustabout - which is hardly the Kings finest celluloid hour over Raiders and Jaws is something of a mystery to me.

It's interesting; There were so many titles to chose from that the majority of voters were split! The majority did not choose Rostabout, but there were those dedicated voters that made it happen. Had the votes been conducted in a bracketed fashion I feel the outcome would be different. But who has time for that?!?!
I'm not complaining either way. The feature to me is a warm up for the festivities to come the very next day!

One way to look at it is with this many great prints in contention, Friday Night Feature has a long future ahead of it!
I made my vote regretting all the ones I voted against. (Until we take over the same space in the hotel next door, it will stay just one at a time. )

I believe Roustabout has been the only consecutive film that has been nominated for four different CineSeas - and, in my opinion, it's about time it won!
It's nice to change things up by playing a musical instead of another action film - and spring is the perfect time for any big musical!

What are you talking about Fright night house of wax and psycho star wars,Aliens are not action films. Plus when was the last cinesea an action film was shown? I've been keeping track and most of the time it's sci fi and horror. If I'm wrong please correct me.

According to Google, the definition of an action film is "...a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists are thrust into a series of challenges that typically include violence, extended fighting, physical feats, and frantic chases."
I believe all of those films you just listen classify as an actio film.
It's a nice change of pace with an Elvis film that is a fun, feel good musical, which is exactly what we need for this Spring's CineSea!

I believe you are taking her use of the word action too literal in a respect. My interpretation is that she is using it in a flexible manner to express the type of sequences. While they may not fall into the specific Genre of Action, they contain many more action like sequences than a musical. To think of it strictly in terms of the Genre Action may be too rigid of an interpretation.

Is blues bros a musical or action?
You Google definition can apply to any movie including Rousabout or bambi. Every movie contains what you quoted.

Aliens for sure is most definitely an action film with horror elements. If you were to take "Alien" and "Aliens" one is a survival horror film, the other is an action film against some frightening enemies.
