Hello..the sound just went out on my 16mm Elmo CL..I tried a working bulb from another CL but did not work on the projector that the sound just went out on and I tried replace the fuses too and still no sound..Can anyone please help..Thanks!!

I had a similar problem with my CL. The cause was dry solder joints on the multi-pin connector. It’s also worth re-soldering the two large ceramic covered resistors.

So John, you guys do the Elmo's? I've got 2 problems I'm trying to fix on my 16-cl. The soundhead scratches the film in the center and the rewind clutch is completely worn out. I tried removing the remnants of the rewind clutch then making a cork version. I'm not getting the torque I need. Can you help me out with either of those problems?

The sound drum shaft itself is unlikely to scratch a film as it's chrome plated, unless, of course, there's some dirt stuck to it.
The problem is probably caused by the rubber rollers turning to goo. A well-known problem with this projector.

In operation, one of these rubber rollers makes contact with the film and presses it against the sound drum shaft. If the rubber is either gooey, or beginning to split, it could cause scratching.

Yes Barry, soundheads that don't spin as all these Elmo's have are a major risk. Yes Maurice, All my rollers are fresh rubber, but I'm not talking about the little nicks created in the film if a piece of dirt gets embedded in the rubber and makes a nick every rotation, I'm talking about a continuous scratch! I can see that the depth between the film rails on the soundhead isn't very deep even when new. I was thinking about removing the soundhead and running silent films for a while, but I can't get to the 2 little Philips screws with the soundhead lens in the way and if I remove the lens, it could be difficult to get it focused as good as factory again. I might try getting vice grip needle nose pliers to try to remove those 2 Philip screws. I want to increase the depth between the film rails but need to practice getting other metal as smooth as that first.

It could be that the sound optics just need a good clean. It's somewhere that's often forgotten about. Have you a copy of the Instruction Manual? If not, you can download one from the Forum's site.

Figure 23 shows a pic of a brush being used to clean the sound optics and solar cell. Be very careful as there is very little clearance between the two.
