I have about 120 Ektasound Super 8 sound films that the owner said could only be played on the Ektasound projectors. But the Moviedeck 265 model he owns has some issue with the lamp (swapped the bulb but the bulb doesn't light up). Can films made with Ektasound cameras play on other Super 8 sound projectors or is it a Kodak proprietary format? If I cannot get the lamp to illuminate on this Moviedeck, I'd like to use another variable speed Super 8 projector to digitize these films.

Hi Todd.
Welcome to the forum. As far as I can see, as long as these films are on normal spools and not in a cartridge or cassette, I see no reason why they cannot be played on any other normal projector.
The only things to take note of is whether the film is standard 8mm or super 8mm and if it has a soundstripe, usually a grey or brown strip along the side of the film. If it does, then you would need a sound projector to benefit from this film properly.
Perhaps Maurice or Brian or any other technically minded people could add their comments?

Here is a video of a Kodak Moviedeck projector, the model number is not quoted. It's from the early days of Super 8 and Kodak wanted to make their new products appeal to all people, not just movie nuts.
Their projectors looked like nothing which were then usually acceptable!
As you see, they did use film on conventual spools, so I assume the Super 8 sound films that you have are on such spools, therefore any super 8 sound projector should run them.

Kind of what I thought. Thanks for the validation.
