The Ocean Holiday Resort in Wildwood, the home of 18 CineSea Film Collector gatherings (all except the very first one), is under new ownership and we've been informed that they will be closing down in September for major renovations.
A new venue has been found nearby, however this necessitates a change of date. The proposed date for CineSea is now October 11th-13th (a week earlier than originally planned). I write "proposed" because this all depends on whether people can attend on this new date.
If you haven't heard of CineSea before, this is a weekend packed with talking about, watching, buying, selling, trading film and film equipment in gauges from 8mm to 35mm. It's a weekend of hanging out with fellow film collectors. A weekend of sharing your favorite films and film stories while trying to fit in as many group meals as possible! You can check out CineSea 19 in Pictures to get an idea of the fun.
Past CineSea attendees that have experienced the Ocean Holiday's event space (garage!) will be overjoyed to hear that we will be in an actual conference center. No need to bundle up, leave those blankets at home! Room prices will be the same ($65) and there is a fitness center on site.
Since the organizers have to put a deposit down, we need to know soon that there will be enough people booking rooms to enable this to go forward.
Dealers: Since there are greater expenses in putting this on, I must apologize that we are raising the per table rate from $20 to an astronomical $30! You'll find the new (warm) dealer space to be well worth it.
So….please post here or email/PM me or Lou Franchetti if you will be joining us on the adventure that is CineSea 20. If we get enough responses quickly, we will lock it in. I'll keep you updated.

I'm in!

That's great news, Michael.
I've been getting a number of emails from people who will also be able to make it. It's looking good.

Onward and Upward: I'm in!
Kind of a shame though. With that outdoorsy ambient the Hospitality room had just a hint of Drive-In Theater!

Is this a temporary or permanent change of venue?
Posted by Douglas Meltzer (Member # 28) on August 06, 2019, 10:03 PM:
Glad you'll be there Steve.
Paul,
No one knows at this point. We'll keep in touch with the Ocean Holiday and see how the renovation and redesign progresses. I was worried that October's CineSea would be cancelled, however I'm now optimistic that we can go on with the show.

Thanks for that info Doug.
My personal feeling is that a change to an indoor conference room will be a very welcome upgrade of the venue. Much as I appreciate ocean breezes, and Steve's "Drive In" ambiance, the last time I was there in April 2015 the cold weather in the garage was hard to take, at least for me coming from Florida.

I'd have to agree Steve, I did like the outdoorsy vibe of the garage, but the show must go on. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Why not have it in Florida.?
For those of us down here who might not be able to make it north October is a wonderful time weatherwise down here and we have lots of motels here to possibly have it
Springtime in Jersey and fall in Florida !

Now THAT is a good idea, particularly as Orlando would be easier to access for us Brits, instead of New York and a long trek to Wildwood. Not sure how the air fares and car hire price would compare, though…..

If there are volunteers who could work with me to organize such an event I am willing to consider doing it here in FL.
Comments please!

Chip,
That's very exciting! Please start a new thread about that since that would be off topic here.
I would appreciate if those interested in Chip's idea please hold off posting till that thread gets started.

Ok Doug. It's done.
Note the name is CINEFEST as where I am it's not really near the sea......
