I have come across a large lot of 8mm films that I will be selling. I believe they're all all Standard and silent.
There's features to shorts.
All are untested. All of my yard sale projectors get hungry and eat film, so I don't want to try and preview.
Trying to sell as one lot is heavy. Trying to find value on these has proven difficult. I listed Metropolis and another on eBay last night, but individually will be time consuming and increases shipping costs.
What's the best way to sell these? Individually on eBay?
Various lots? Advice is appreciated.

I would suggest that the majority of old standard 8 silent films would have few takers unless they were "collector" material such as "Metropolis".
You could try first by listing the films on this Forum with prices (Forum requirement) set to a reasonable figure, with perhaps, a discount for more than one. This way you will come across true collectors.
eBay is a bit of a minefield these days with eventual buyers often refusing to pay.

I agree with the previous post, but I would also add that you'll truly get the best advice on a website like this (or other super 8/standard 8mm websites).

You always have the option of selling them all as a package deal, altogether, and those sometimes sell though, I'll admit, i would have no idea as to how much to ask as a starting bid (that is, if you were going to do ebay).

I've been surfing around here and the knowledge here is top notch.

I think I'll just post as a lot here and see if there is interest. I don't want to get into the labor intensitivity of individual listing over 50 listings for over 100 reels. Determining price for me is difficult, as reading the posts here still does not uncover a lot of these movies listings.

Shipping can be problematic, but we'll deal with it I guess.

I'll end the eBay auctions so Metropolis is included in the group.

Hi Dale.

A couple of remarks from myself regarding these films....

Firstly, I would not include Metropolis in the batch. Leave it to run on Ebay as a separate item. The reason is that this is quite a sought after title which would find its true value on there and you wouldn't be doing yourself justice selling it with the others. Rather the dollars be in YOUR bank account than someone else's!

Secondly....

"All my yard sale projectors get hungry and eat film"

Does this suggest that some of the films have been projected on these machines and been chewed up? Be very careful that you are not selling a batch of damaged films or your reputation would sink deeper than the Titanic.

No, I have not tried any of these in my machines. I have in the past with cartoons, stag, and home movies that I've gotten at estate sales.
I have to dig those out to sell also. Though I'm not sure this forum is the right spot for those .

Selling it as a one lot will save you probably time and trouble but will also limit your sale to the US because of the shipping costs, so it's something to think about.
