I have a friend with a GS-1200 and the take-up seems to have lost its torque and stalls out almost right away. There is also a ticking sound from the take-up area, which can even be heard when the projector is in reverse. We took off the gear inside the arm and added a drop of two of oil where the shaft goes through the bushing but it didn't seem to help much. Any thoughts anyone?

John, It sounds like its the gear on the motor shaft! They do go! I have the part you need! Its called Gear 1. But check it first and get back to me! Leon.

The gear on the shaft seemed okay. We pulled the pin from it and took it off. I put a couple drops of oil where the shaft goes into the bearing and put the gear back on. The issue remained afterwards.

All the gears seem okay and free. The back spindle will not move at all in forward now. The shaft from the motor will not turn even with NO gear on it. I notice if I put the projector in reverse and then switch to forward the spindle will make about a 1/2 turn and stop. If I engage it without going to reverse first it will not turn at all. Seems like the motor is bad or the power is not getting to it correctly.

John, it sounds like its the take up relay! Not the motor! The take up relay is on the bottom circuit board! Its right below the fan motor! You have two relays side by side! A small one and a large one. The larger one works the take up! They do go bad! I had to replace one in my GS1200. So hear is a simple test! Turn machine on and touch the fwd button. Than take a screwdriver and tap on the relay plastic cover! If the relay kicks in and the take up motor starts to run than its the relay! So give it a try!

Leon, I tried what you said. No luck. When my friend first brought the GS-1200 over, the take-up would run but would stop when the film first hit it and it needed torque. Later, if you turned the spindle by hand to get it going, it would to turn for a while and then stop shortly thereafter. Now, it won't turn at all.

Again John, it looks like the relay! Not the motor! That's the sign of a bad relay! Just detach the motor from the body. Than try it! If the motor is bad it will not run at all! These relays are now over forty years old! If this one is bad than the other relay is going to go soon! I do still have plenty of new GS parts in stock! Motors and relays! Two very important parts for the GS1200 projector!
