I'm almost positive that someone has had to have brought this up before, but if I was to want a short film transferred on to Super 8, what would be the best way to go about it?

You haven't mentioned what you have in terms of gauge and whether it's a positive/negative, but unless anyone has information I'm aware of, I'm afraid your ONLY option is to see if the Andec lab in Germany can assist. Depending on your master, they probably can, but be prepared for a print to cost a substantial sum!

Sorry I should of been more clear. It would be in a digital format and I would want a Super 8 print printed from the source file.

I think Andec should be able to manage that, but you should find details on their website. In fact a chap in Italy could probably supply a 16mm print for far lower cost, if that would be equally good from your point of view!

You could always try filming it on your camera direct from your computer screen, the quality would not be as good admittedly with possible strobing etc. but it may be worth a go just for fun.

Extending from Leonard's idea. If your short film is...
- Really short, just less than 3 minutes (to fit well within 50ft film's limit)
- No audio required (or you intend to dub it later anyway)
- You need only ONE copy, and one copy ONLY.
- And finally, you happen to have a Super 8 camera with reflex viewfinder&stop motion function.

You may, in theory, play your short film FRAME BY FRAME on high quality monitor (in dimly lit room, no reflection on the screen of course) and use the animation function on the camera to capture each frame shown on the screen.

This setup should be relatively low-cost compared to sending it to professional lab to do this film-out. Only drawback is that about 3,600 shutter press is required for this process. [Big Grin]

For a one-time work this should be just bearable. Anything beyond that, you may have to consider "automate" the process somewhat. [Wink]
