I'm tired of "living from scraps" [Big Grin] that is, pieces of old leaders cut off from feature reels and such... I need to stock up on some fresh, clean, quality all-purpose leader for super-8 films.
Obviously Kodak's white acetate leader comes to mind, but can one buy polyester (estar/mylar) leader too? (I would prefer that kind since it's so much stronger, making it ideal for surviving threading accidents.) I'm looking for some dark-colored or otherwise opaque leader - none of that blank white stuff but not necessarily pitch-black either.

Can anyone recommend any of the leaders from Dave Thomas?

Is any one color better than the others? Should I stay away from that Protect-A-Print leader? (Probably, huh?)

Jan, I would agree with you about the Protect a Print leader. In this day of limited or no spare parts for out precious projectors I would not want to put abrasive leader through my machine. I would use one of the std coloured leaders that dave is offering. In days gone by the labs used top put green on the head and red on the tail.

Kevin, I remember the green-leaders, red-tails business from back in the day [Smile] If only I could find super-8 leader like that... I do have some green and red leader, but it's opaque, not transparent - and it's warped and shrunk. Worse yet, it feels like jelly to the touch and is guaranteed to cause threading jams! [Frown] (Yes, I'm about to throw all of it away right now)

Bob, thanks! I actually forgot about Urbanskifilm, don't know how I managed to do that. On my way there now. I bought my bottle of FilmRenew from there before and it was one of the best purchases I made. [Smile]

That's a very good price, actually! You mention it's not what I'm looking for, how come - is it not Kodak triacetate leader, and if it isn't, what kind is it?
I've actually bought 100ft. of Kodak leader from eBay for a cool $11.85, should be here soon, so we'll see how that works out... but I'll keep your offer in mind should I need more later. [Smile]
