Hi Jose,
A very same question was also asked in this topic: Is "Thriller" clips (M. Jackson) available in Super 8mm?
And was also briefly mentioned here.
And finally one member requested that clips here.
Having seen this, it seems you have a same interest with me but unfortunately the answer is still negative to date
cheers,

It was run at drive-ins here when it was originally released back in 84 as a support featurette. So it was and would be around in 35mm somewhere.

yes you´re rigth,i have a print on 35mm and the negative at my work but its not mine belongs to the film library where i work,is for that reason that i wonder if s-8mm prints have been released,it seems that my only chance is ask to my boss if he let me make a 16mm print from the negative....will be difficult but not imposible i hope.

Jose, did you ever ask your boss about the negative?
Posted by Matthieu van der Sluis (Member # 6040) on November 08, 2017, 04:32 PM:
I believe Steve from The real image can make a Super8 from it but there has to be more who are
interested in it.
I for one would like to join in. A nice sharp stereo Thriller on Super8, oh yeh.

Ok, how do we get the ball rolling on this?
Posted by Matthieu van der Sluis (Member # 6040) on November 09, 2017, 12:37 AM:
Than Winberts boss needs to be parted from this 35mm film as well, at least for a while.

I'll put my name down for one of these too.

Well I e-mailed Steve Osbourne from The Real Image, so maybe he join in.
I'm not sure he can do this. Maybe I misunderstood the way he works, but I think he makes copies from 35mm film to Super8 in Stereo if it is more than 1 person who buy's it.

No that is not my boss but Jose Artiles.
You cannot make an 8mm copy from 35mm negative. AFAIK the negative must be down to 16mm (for 2 copies of 8mm). Making a 16mm negative will be very expensive though.
Cheers,

Colour Technique in the UK used to make 35 - 8mm reductions (and blow-ups) so it is possible - just it was too expensive for more than the occasional one copy. This was because they were step printed not continuous as from 16mm negatives.
I also believe Derann's first rental prints were standard 8 direct reductions from 35mm positives to Kodachrome.

I've emailed José but so far had no response.

I received responce from Steve from The Real Image.
There is a company in Berlin that seem to convcert 35mm films to Super8.
At the moment they are looking for a really good version from The War of the World.
I just send them an email avout this 35mm Thriller.
We'll see.

Which version?
Posted by Matthieu van der Sluis (Member # 6040) on November 10, 2017, 11:00 AM:
Old version.
About Thriller.
I asked them how it works, and they said; If the 35mm prints are in best / good condition, it is possible to make Super8 prints with magnetic striping, including stereo track.
But they cannot offer sound recording, specially not in stereo.
I did read here on the forum that the soundrecording in stereo can be done by someone else here.

I could be wrong but war of the worlds was covered quite well by Marketing and there are still a lot of very good prints about,

Matthieu - you can find a lot of posts about the German lab via searches here, as they are responsible for printing all the Super 8 releases of recent years. They should be able to do sound recording again eventually, but repairs to the recording equipment are taking a long time.
