I just got a print of "Around the Beatles" (the 1964 TV special). It's on 2x400ft reels in the original box. I still need to run this, but given the length, I assume this is the full 50 minute show, not the more common extract version.

In 16mm this would be worth a lot (especially to a beatles collector - last print I saw on ebay went for $500+), anyone know what it's worth in Super 8? I'm trying to get an idea of what to start the ebay auction at (and presumably it should be cross listed in a beatles category). Anyone have any ideas?

Steven, cant help you on price, but each 400ft reel would usually hold no more than 20 mins so 2x400 would be around 40 minutes. However if the film is on thin polyster stock it could be 50 mins or more. Who released this ?

Steve, its always a crap shoot if you put a higher starting bid on this item, but i do remember a print of this, (that print was 3X400ft) going for quite a lot. It is rather rare or, at least
being held onto tightly by collectors.

Don't start it too high.

REDRUM REDRUM!!!.......Herrrrrrrrrrrrrres Osi.

Keep on Shinning Bro. [Big Grin]

Ahem(as Osi would say), to keep on topic, I would think " Around The Beatles" would bring bids ending somewhere in the $200.00 plus range.

I guess I should run the print and compare with my 16mm and then post it on ebay and see what happens...

It's a Niles print BTW...

From the Winter 1979 Niles Catalogue:

Around the Beatles - 1964

A British TV Concert wtih many songs by the fabulous four plus a giant medley of their hits at the end. Millie Small, Sounds Inc., Cilla Black and others are also featured.

4S465 Super 8 sd., b/w 45 min. $64.98

Mind you - Niles prints can vary considerably in quality. Their best releases by far were the Sherlock Holmes features (IMHO).

Steven, I recently sold the version you have (super 8), on eBay for around $40.00 (I bought it for $75.00). It's NOT the complete(hour plus)special. It misses the opening bits (Ringo firing a cannon which shows the 'Around the Beatles' title, and the fans parading into the set singing "We Love You Beatles"), and also missing is the "Midsummer Night's Dream" play...otherwise it is complete, but with the average quality of a NILES print. The cutdown I have of this on a 600' reel has much better quality & contrast. Not sure what co. released it. It does have the opening sequences mentioned, but still omits the "play". The differences in picture quality between the two prevented me from trying to edit them together. My cutdown is much brighter, and with better sound too. This special was a great show!

Joe is right,40-75 is the value of it,but you might find someone crazed enough to spend more.

Beatles memorabilia is hot right now, so it may go higher than normal. It has hit $81.00 as today. This should be interesting.
