Anyone out there interested in parting with their Star Wars Scope prints to a fellow film and star wars collector? Let me know!

Ooohhhh, my mouth is watering!

Yes I saw that. Wonder how much it will go for. Any Idea what a good price is on those? I have not seen them come available.

They don't pop up here often, especially in the US. The last one I remember that was located in the States went for around $750 or so, that was almost two years ago. Perfect print, though. This one listed on Ebay has lines, and the 'occasional emulsion' line too.

Doesn't need to be perfect...As a star wars and a film nut it would be really cool just to own a piece of star wars history (considering this is the original 1977 edit!)

I can't recommend the official Derann print highly enough. I had a bootleg once and sold it - but the Derann scope print I bought from a forum member is now one of my most prized possessions... absolutely stunning picture and stereo sound, too... so the one on Ebay now is worth getting and it's from a reputable collector. I know $500 sounds steep - but they really are hard to find now.

It's funny, I chose to leave my first day (first day that it was for sale) print mono, and added the commentary track from the DVD on the balance stripe. The color is absolutely gorgeous on that print and doesn't suffer from the later negative wear conditions that came forth later.

Could somebody put up a link to that auction? I wouldn't mind seeing it, if they have screenshots.

(gee, and I remember thinking I was paying a hell of a lot five years ago at 200.00 pounds!)

Osi, if only they were still available at that price, I'd surely have one by now.

Well, this person is certainly an honest seller. If he was dishonest, he certainly wouldn't show the green scratches.

Looking at the screenshots, you tend to forget just how wonderfully wide the scope image actually is!

CMIIW..the seller is Larry A ....member of this forum.

So this auction is from an honest seller!

The black scratches are kind of hard to see on the screen shots. So please bid accordingly. This is a print I was hoping to replace my current print with but it was only slightly better. Mine was re-recorded by Lance so the sound is actual better than this one. I believe the stereo comes from Derann. I may try to get closer shots of the scratches before auction ends. I'd just be thrilled to get the opening bid. I got an email wanting to end the auction early with a buy-it-now but unfortunately I just don't do this.

Using Photoshop I pointed out the scratches:

Opening bid met. It's not me, but now I have competition.

If I had the money, surely I would be in the competition. Good luck!

and I can vouch for Larry's very reliable service and as a good seller and of course, friend.

I have compared (with my own print) the Derann super 8 against at least the laserdisc (I don't count trhe modern DVD and that has been color corrected and in fact changed and darkened overall), and I do find that Derann print to be better than the laserdisc and (personally) perferrable over any DVD.

I do, however look forward to the Blu-ray release of the features and I might just be tempted to jump into blu-ray, just for that film!

WOW.... were those full features on that Ebay listing?

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on June 22, 2011, 02:14 PM:

Don't show me that! Lucky guy....

Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on June 23, 2011, 10:27 AM:

That's outrageous! I wouldn't accept them for paying so little ...

Awww, who am I kidding? I wonder if that was a "Buy it now" auction and someone snapped it up as soon as it came up? I never saw it either!

Posted by Greg Marshall (Member # 1268) on June 23, 2011, 12:24 PM:

I don't think it was, Osi.... there were 8 or 9 bids. Another 'wrong category' I need to add to my 'scour list'. LOL

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on June 23, 2011, 12:26 PM:

Perhaps I can convince the buyer to sell me his copy. At least i know He'd profit on it. One could only dream!

Posted by Greg Marshall (Member # 1268) on June 23, 2011, 07:19 PM:

Isn't that one the artwork for Jedi?

Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on June 24, 2011, 01:57 PM:

Correct Greg, but that was the art that they used on the boxes for "Star Wars", at least on early boxes, 9as I have), I don't know if they used different art later on.

Posted by Greg Marshall (Member # 1268) on June 25, 2011, 04:35 PM:

Ooooh, ok. Maybe whoever bought all of them did it to re-sell them, and we'll see them pop up.

Posted by Larry Arpin (Member # 744) on June 26, 2011, 01:30 AM:

By sheer coincidence this same bidder bid against a film I was bidding on and won.

So I think he is a film buff. That was one of Ian's auctions.

There's a print of "High Society" on Ebay UK, buy it now for 350 GBP.... wonder if that seller's the buyer from the bargain basement?

Does anyone out there want to part with ESB or ROTJ prints? I would love to get a hold of any of these!

Jedi turns up here and on Ebay occasionally. I think I've seen a listing for Empire once on here, and maybe once on Ebay in the past few years. Rare that you see that one.

$1,825.00 WOW! Anyone from here?

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on June 27, 2011, 02:47 PM:

Not me. I love star wars, but it ain't worth that much to me...

Posted by Greg Marshall (Member # 1268) on June 27, 2011, 02:51 PM:

I guess I can stop rolling those quarters. LOL

Is this a record? Has anyone seen a print go higher than this for Star Wars?

Posted by Brian Hendel (Member # 61) on June 27, 2011, 02:57 PM:

Star Wars went for 1,825! Congrats Larry - that's amazing. Made me think for a moment about selling mine...but I just can't part with it. It's good to see our. Collections äre holding their value!

Posted by Julian Baquero (Member # 2520) on June 27, 2011, 04:54 PM:

I think this is a scandal, even being a Star Wars fan I think the price is excessive and worst of all people will now want such a ridiculous price for it, sorry but I think it is not worth it. I am not 100% sure but a 35mm print is around 2000 USD.

If you look at this link, you can see the guy listed the auction before but was flagged. Look at the pictures of the print. I wouldn't have paid $1825 for it. Thats just me.

I think Larry has two prints, and I'm not sure, but I think the one that just sold is in a little better shape than this one.

We will probably see some copies come out of collections over this sale. They won't all go this high, more than likely, but I'd certainly like the opportunity to get a copy for sure.

Maybe Derann will pay attention and contract services with that lab in Germany. New prints are still desirable.

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on June 27, 2011, 08:34 PM:

Yes, new prints would be great! Think we can get enough people together to make it happen?

Posted by Greg Marshall (Member # 1268) on June 27, 2011, 08:46 PM:

I'd buy one at a fair cost, for sure. I'm unsure if they have the negative or source print any longer. They may have worn out, and I doubt Fox will issue an original version to them, with the grip that Lucas likes to have on his property.

Posted by Rob Young. (Member # 131) on June 28, 2011, 05:14 AM:

The negatives Derann used are long since worn out.

From previous discussions it seems that first print runs might be the ones to look for as later copies apparently already show negative problems. Star Wars was withdrawn because of negative wear / damage...think I'll hold on to mine!

So you'd need a new 16mm negative made to start with...hmmm...not likely these days sadly [Frown]

We've seen this eBay print listing before!
Did this ever actually sell for $1,825?
With 3 listings it has become a trilogy all of it's own!
So what IS the story? [Confused] [Confused]

it sold

Just goes to show that when you find a buyer who REALLY wants something and has the money to fight a bidding war, anything can happen. I bought my mint Star Wars with Lance's stereo re-recording three years ago for $250 dollars. I wouldn't sell it for any amount unless desperate.

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on September 07, 2011, 08:52 AM:

Is there anyone out there wiling to sell off their copy of Star Wars? I have been looking for this one for a long time and have not been able to get lucky enough to find it...

Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on September 07, 2011, 01:45 PM:

If that Star Wars print doesn't have those green scrtach throughout, and just appearing for a short time, then that 300.00 dollar price tage is an OK price. I don't think we'll see the likes of 1,800 for another STAR WARS.

Now, if I was to ever put my first day print signed by David "Darth Vader" Prowse autographed print up on ebay, it might get up there!

(disclaimor: I am not selling my print!) [Smile]

Still confused [Confused]

We've seen that exact same listing (pictures, description and seller) on eBay 3 times now so what's the story behind the legendary $1,850 sale... did it actually ever sell on that occasion? [Frown]

Posted by Michael O'Regan (Member # 938) on September 08, 2011, 05:40 AM:

I just checked the original listing which states that there is the occasional green emulsion scratch. However, in the relist it says this line is there throughout most of the reel.
Possibly, the original buyer was a little unhappy with the original description when he viewed his $1800 print with a lot more green than he was lead to believe??

Posted by Adam Deierling (Member # 2307) on September 08, 2011, 08:19 AM:

I talked to the seller. Apparently he had two copies. This one was not in as good of shape as the one he sold for $1800...

Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on September 08, 2011, 02:07 PM:

Thats possible.

Sometimes I will see the very same screenshots on other peoples auctions. It;s dishonest, but some folks will take other peoples screenshots and try to pass of thier own prints as AS GOOD as the screenshots they are using. I remember seeing the very same faded screenshots from an "Empire Strikes Back part 1" print on FOUR different auctions.

WEll, lets just say that they were four different sellers. Perhaps it was one seller with four identities? That is marginally possible.

Maybe that person with ther STAR WARS feature got it returned to him by the person who bought it and he was reselling his own print again.

... and yes, that sale of over 1,800 dollars was no myth, as I know the fellow quite well who sold it sucessfully.

1800 dollers eh? jeepers, good luck to the seller, i tried to persaude my Brother last week to see what he cud get for our copy of Star Wars. Take a read of this,
A copy of this film came up a long time ago on list far far away, it was £125.00. I rang on the Monday and the film was still there, full feature in scope but mono [Eek!]
Got the copy sent and we viewed it that evening, not what we hoped, part one had a ton of negative sparkle, part two was dark part three had like water marks dancing all over the screen, but hey, part four was top notch, clearly the film was made up of white box specials by the previous owner who clearly didnt tell Derann when he traded it into them. Well, me being me i sent the film back to Derann, i even marked it FOA Derek Simmonds, with a letter that was to say the least a little grumpy. Do you know what that man did and we'll never forget it as long as we live? He sent us a brand new sealed, stereo print. I know we are not the first or only people to recieve Deranns superb customer service of this nature,To say we were Speechless was an understatement and having tonight took it out, cleaned it with film gaurd and looked at it mounted on 2 x 1200ft Elmo spools we asked, how can we sell this? The answer is sorry but we cant!!!! I think Derek would haunt us, [Big Grin] [Wink]
Good luck on finding a copy, i'm sure one will come up on the lists sometime, i have to say the downside of the internet and ebay is clearly this, when a copy does come up the price will be quite high as we can clearly see some people will pay over the odds. Supply and demand i suppose.

Incredible generosity there, and a great story Tom ...

I bet you still have that print to this day, eh?

Posted by Tom Photiou (Member # 130) on September 17, 2011, 12:14 PM:

Yes we do, when i saw the one on ebay go for over a thousand pound i thought, i must sell ours but once we viewed it again and with this background my Brother decided against it.
