There was an an amazing collection of super 8mm digests from eBay seller clcgaragesalemi.

Check out the rest of this tread to see how it went.

Some great titles to be sure.

I felt like a kid in a candy store as I scanned this list.

See how high the prices got for titles like "King Kong (1976)", the 1x400 and 3x400 versions of "The Exorcist", and all those Universal 8 titles.

Oh yeah, I've been looking at this list and there is certainly a few choice titles I'l like to see on my shelf.
whoops just looked again, I think they're going to get outside my price range!
Ah well.

Yes, I've been looking at these too....I'm watching a few.

Although, I will probably 'watch' them go into some one else's collection!

I hear ya Bill. Ain't it the truth, Pat.

It looks like the most popular title right now is the 2x400 "Empire Strikes Back"

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Ken-Films-Movie-Star-Wars-Empire-Strikes-Back-Part-1-2-400-/280809401694?pt=US_Film&hash=item41618b6d5e

This went up for auction yesterday. The staring bid was $20. 18 bids later and it is currently at $93.00. There are only two people bidding. d***n & 4***6. In three days we will see who wins the war.

Now, I have a question about a film they have for sale. Several great 400' Disney animated digests just went up. Among them are two German "Fantasia" reels from Piccolo.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270898386025?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Does anyone here have these? Are they the full segments or are they edited? I read about the Italian version here and I know Derann released some of the pieces separately. In fact, I will finally be getting my very own copy of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" very soon. But what is in this Piccolo version?

I know I could ask the seller but I haven't had a chance to yet. I did ask about the 1x400 "Poseidon Adventure". If you know me, it's the one digest I would love to have a perfect copy of. It has some fade, no VS and, the main thing I really wanted to know, No Narration! If this turned out to be "The" copy, I would be so happy. Then I could sell off my four copies. [Smile]

I see they have "Logan's Run"...

I've always hoped to get my hands on the 1976 "King Kong" from Marketing Films. I'd love to get the 3X400' edition, but I'd settle for the 1X400'er for the time-being. The hard part is that whenever I spy it on Ebay, it always spikes too high for my comfort. And what's with the high bids on the U-8 400' Monster Classics? These always go for such excessive amounts. Luckily I have most of them with the exception of the "Mummy" titles. Curious if the 400'ers really add worthwhile dimension to the 200' editions. I've heard some of them are real duds. Universal, it seems, didn't really put much thought behind what scenes to select and relied more on the fact that because they were extended versions of already popular titles they would sell well regardless. Unfortunately they were right.

Chris-That particular Fantasia segment is the "Dance of the Hours". There is a slight cut when the Hippo comes out of the water, maybe about 20 or 30 seconds. I had this for many years and the color was good.

Posted by Chris Fries (Member # 2719) on January 21, 2012, 11:29 PM:

Larry,

If this is just "Dance of the Hours" then why are there photos of "Pastoral Symphony" and "Nutcracker Suite" as well on the back? There are two reels listed. Could the second reel have either of the other titles? Also, did anyone ever release "Rite of Spring" or "Night on Bald Mountain" on super 8? I did not include Bach's "Toccata and Fugue" or "Ave Maria" in there because I doubt, outside of the full feature, that there was a separate reel for those pieces.

Posted by Larry Arpin (Member # 744) on January 22, 2012, 12:03 AM:

Derann had "Rite of Spring" & "Night on Bald Mountain" which segue wayed to "Ave Maria". However, "Rite of Spring" starts when the dinos appear and is missing the creation of Earth with the bubbly molten lava and the passing of billions of years.

Posted by Chris Fries (Member # 2719) on January 22, 2012, 12:56 AM:

Thanks, Larry. That's too bad about "Rite of Spring". All of "Fantasia" is wonderfully animated but that whole sequence is simply brilliant.

So, the auctions are about half over.

Brad talked a few days ago about the high bids on the U8 Sci-Fi & Monster digests. They all sold for a combined total of nearly $900!!

There were several well-known titles that ended today. They all went for big bucks. The Exorcist and Superman The Movie at $51.00 each, JAWS 2x400 $109.16, King Kong (1976) $102.50, The Empire Strikes Back 2x400 $93.00 and this. I was truly stunned when I saw this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Ken-Films-Movie-Alien-400-Tom-Skerritt-Sigourney-Weaver-/280809406359?pt=US_Film&hash=item41618b7f97

Really?!!!

Would anyone here pay that?

Amazing.

And there are still lots of films for sale!

Looks like a whole lot of Marketing titles end tomorrow. And if anyone is looking for it, Ken's STAR WARS parts 1 & 2 is currently $70.77.

I'm watching several Disney 200's, myself. They end in 4 days. I just hope they stay within my budget.

I have an awful feeling they will not.

$200 for a 400' film?

Is there a way to contact the person who was out bid so I can sell them my copy of this film?

[Cool]

Posted by Akshay Nanjangud (Member # 2828) on January 25, 2012, 10:30 PM:

Gerald, even I can't believe that short sold for that high a price. Here are my reasons:

1. That same short has sold for less than $50 on eBay (if I'm not mistaken)
2. An addition of couple more hundreds could probably get you the whole feature (am I right?).

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on January 25, 2012, 10:49 PM:

Compulsive buying is a common phenomenon on Ebay. Buyer just realized it at the end of auction. There are two possibilities may happen:

1. Buyers have unlimited of money, they pay, seller is lucky
2. Buyers ask to cancel the transaction. Seller re-list or reject the request.

But then if seller reject the request, seller cannot do anyhting other than Ebay gives one strike to the buyer.

Akhsay, as for all Universal 8 films, it does still make a sense to me if they are not more than $70. But there are indeed 3 titles are sold for more than $110!!

Unbelievebale....may be the buyer is a completish type. He/she wants to make a full list of U-8 releases in his/her collection.

There'a a third possible explanation, Winbert. Shilling or getting a friend to bid in order to drive up the final price. Quite often the item ends up being relisted at a later date as the item has not actually sold due to the shiller "winning" the item.
This is more common than you think.

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on January 26, 2012, 09:07 AM:

Mike, I knew bid shilling is another possibility. But I put that aside because according to the record of the winner (and also the second winner), they have already bid/purchased another Films items previously (DVDs & Movies > Film).

This makes me believe there is a small possibility they have planned it since long time ago. Beside, the two top bidders are not new comers, the most common MO in bid shilling. They have had scores.

Moreover, the seller would not take a risk loosing his/her ID with this MO. As you can see this ID is working as a trade assistant with thousands score, so in other word, he/she makes a living through this ID. Wouldn't you think so?

I saw that "Empire Strikes Back" auction as well and it always gets me how someone will have an auction up, noy promising any good color, and yet the auction gets rediculously bid up! This seller doesn't say anything about the color, nor are there any screenshots.

I could care less how good or bad the boxes look, as they are no barometer of the actual "condition of the films. I see that so often, "Film condition is very good"

why? because it's on a reel and not all bent up?

Now, to be fair, my wife and I do not put up screenshots on our auctions too often, but we do0 give an honest assessment of the color condition of the print. At least the customer knows what the color will be like.

Winbert,
I wasn't specifically referring to this auction but to auctions in general that reach unbelievably high prices.

Posted by Chris Fries (Member # 2719) on January 26, 2012, 01:41 PM:

This seller does have some screenshots so they are capable of checking film condition. These are probably from that nice looking Elmo ST-1200 they have for sale. I suppose a request for screen shots can be made before the auction is over. I haven't asked.

And now, here is another ridiculous sale. This just ended.

BEN-HUR. The 1x400 17. min. version.

Best of luck. And for anyone else who sells on eBay, don't forget the seller sale for today and tomorrow. Auction style listings including "Buy It Now" are free. I have a few things I hope to put up later. No film, though.

I have a question about the 3x400 "Exorcist" for sale from clcgaragesalemi.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Film-Movie-THE -EXORCIST-1200-Reel-Short-Version-/280813214365?pt=US_Film&hash=item4161c59a9d

There was some brief discussion about it in the review for the 1x400. Can anyone give more info? Like, what scenes are there and what is missing? Is there anything in the 1x400 that's not in the 3x400? I am watching it but it will probably go for an astronomical price that's way beyond my budget. We'll see.

Unbelievable!

Well...all the films I've been watching went (or are going) beyond my budget. I still can't get over ALIEN...is that digest rare?

And like Osi says, with just a basic description of "excellent" for every film listed I am suprised at the high bids.

That seller really made out at that estate sale!

I bid on the Marketing "Kong", but stopped at $50. Just isn't worth more than that to me. I can hold out till another one comes by. I didn't even consider bidding on the Universal Monster Classics - not for that kind of money.

No one has said anything about their thoughts on this ebay auction price . Do you think that this is a high price or an okay price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160718571531?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 And everyone is so blown away by this ebay film auction but what about a few months ago when one guy sold just a trailer of Forbidden Planet for over a $100 it may have been $200 if any one remembers?

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on January 27, 2012, 12:21 AM:

Trailer of Forbidden Planet is a different thing. It does not come so often. I can say the rarity rate at 4.

But Alien digest is very common (rate 1). I have two, and now just got another one [Wink] . But this seller could sell it for $203!! when a full feature would be around $500. So this 16 minutes digest is almost a half price of a full feature.

Regading "Jack the Giant killer", I think that price is fair for today's sitution. I guess we need to wait for one to two years until the market gets normal after the closing of Derann.

Many buyers are now in panic mode and start hoarding films for re-selling in the future. But like the economy, we must care about the growth, if the growth is lesser than the supply, price will get down eventually.

Posted by Larry Arpin (Member # 744) on January 27, 2012, 12:24 AM:

Laksmi-That print of JACK has been around for awhile. It seems high to me, but I've heard it is a great looking print, especially if it is an original Red Fox print it wouldn't have any wear in the negative. You have a great looking collection. I'm curious about that reel of 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Is that the 4-200 foot reels?

That 400 foot reel of King Kong went for $102 and I wonder how the color is? Amazing.

Posted by Osi Osgood (Member # 424) on January 27, 2012, 12:55 PM:

While "Alien" is a rather common digest, a good color one is another matter altogether. Most copies were on eastman which is, of course, in various degrees of fade.

However, our own Han's had a copy, (and stupid me, I waited a little too long!) but his copy is on Agfa. Someone bought it and it was a GREAT buy at the price he wanted.

Yes Larry it is a reel of 7th Voyage of Sinbad 4-200 foot reels I photoshoped the cover. Anybody got that Jack Film besides the guy on eBay it did look good but to high price for me? It is not Ray Harryhausen! . I just won the Eye of the Tiger 400 reel. I had it before but sold it in my foolish days of collecting and in need of money. And it was a good print. I liked the R rated scenes of the girls bathing and rushing to put cloths on in front of the TROG. Oh my! Yes Winbert the Planet trailer is rare so you have a good point. But I guess I got a good deal on my Forbidden feature with fantastic color I kill for. And Osi I don't see Alien 400 feet going up on eBay as much as other titles. Maybe the guy did have a agfa print with killer color. We don't know unless the guy who bought it is a member of this forum?

I actually had two copies of Alien.
Both on Agfa stock with great color and in nice original box.
Sold for € 15,- each....
I guess I'm not so good in pricing my films.

That Ben Hur and Alien go for a crazy price. But a rarer MGM release was sold for low price.

I just won this from the said seller:

NORTHWEST PASSAGE

 -

was sold for only $17.

I have been looking for this title since 2009, and never seen any on Ebay. I saw once previously and sold for a crazy price. So I can say the rarity rate is 3 for this title.

I posted that here:
I never seen this MGM before, any rare?

So Ebay is kinda strange. People are buying for something common for an unbelievable price but keep this rarer item low [Razz] .

Joe Caruso and some member agree that this is one of the best digest (repeatable).

Last, this is also known as one of last Ken release....so my fingers are crossed this is on LPP/AGFA stock (ps: with that background I also buy seller's other MGMs, "Gigi" and "Easter Parade" for $9/each).

Posted by Chris Fries (Member # 2719) on January 27, 2012, 04:41 PM:

You got a great deal, Winbert. I've never seen "Northwest Passage" but I used to have "Easter Parade". And yes, $10 is a really great price for that. The 1x400 "Grease" just ended at $54. The way things have been going for this seller, I am surprised it did not end at double that.

Did anyone see how much the 1x400 "Wizard of Oz" went for?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Movie-The-Wizard-Oz-400-Judy-Garland-Ray-Bolger-Bert-Lahr-/270897697209?pt=US_Film&hash=item3f12c2d1b9

I hope it looked like Technicolor for that kind of money. I had one once but it was beet red (see my vid on Youtube). I sold it for $20.

As for buying from this seller, I did find something I have been looking for. I finally got the 2x400 "The Sting". I cannot wait to see this. I used to have the 1x400 but it seemed so rushed and I was aware that a lot of story was missing. I will post it on Youtube as soon as I get it. That and any Disney 200's I can get tomorrow. Can we say "Tax Season" -- what is up with these auctions? In reality that is what I would like for many of the digests I have. The Wizard of Oz I got from Derann right before they closed was $40 with excellent color. If someone offered me $100 for it, I may not turn it down. eBay, you shameful temptress why are you such a roller coaster of prices and emotions!!!

P.S. To my girlfriend -- I'm not really going to sell the Wizard of Oz. [Embarrassed]

Lakshmi, the above Australian company has been discussed so many times here, and we have concluded just to forget it. No email response and high price. What more we need?

BTW, form this seller, I just won another not-too-often title, "The Champ" for $9.99. I believe this is also one of Ken's last releases. So my fingers are crossed it is on LPP.

 -

So far I made a score from this seller for:

- Northwest passage ($17)
- Easter Parade ($9.99)
- The Champ ($9.99)
- Gigi ($9.99)

Nothing are ended in absurd price like the more-common Alien, Ben Hur, Grease...which we still dont understand what was in buyers' mind when they place their bids. ...eeek!...

BTW, if Gigi is on LPP, it would be like Peter Van Zand's print below (he is also member of this forum)

Look how beautiful is the color!

So don't get so pesimistic with MGM, some are just beautiful !!

My hope that this collector bought his collection at the end of Ken era, so the other titles will have similar quality like the above... [Wink]

cheers,

Winbert,

Best of luck on your purchases. I hope the films we both bought look as good as that copy of "Gigi". I got a few of the Disney 200's I wanted tonight. Both reels for "Cinderella" and "Lady and the Tramp". I will be selling my other copies soon. My "Cinderella" is on a 400' reel, somewhat faded and, having been a former library copy, has a few lines. My current copies of "Lady and the Tramp" are very worn. The beginning of "Evening" is missing and both have many lines. I am hoping to get one or two more of the Disney's tomorrow. And that might be it for me. As much as I'd love to get the 3x400 "Airplane", I am sure it will go higher than it's current price of $30.

Speaking of 3x400, has anyone seen how much "The Exorcist" is going for? That is definitely outside of my budget.

Now I just purchased "Small One" for $10 from the same seller....which this is not too rare but just if we were in December, it would have been $25...or even more. [Wink]

Still I don't understand [Confused]

Again, as with your previous purchases, I think you did good on this one. I saw it for sale this morning, too. I found my copy in December. Luckily, I paid less than $25. I like the edit. I hope yours is less faded than mine.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l63xymHwV8A

I am now a little bit closer to completing my Disney 200' collection. I purchased a few more this morning. Both "Robin Hood" reels, "Pete's Dragon" and I finally found "Albatross Airlines" from The Rescuers! Now, to complete the animated classics collection, I have to find both "Sword and the Stone" reels, both "Aristocats" reels, "The Three Caballeros", and "Bambi Falls in Love". Anybody willing to part with any of these? [Smile]

Well, it looks like all the auctions are done. There were a few left this morning. All 3x400's. All went for big bucks. Especially this one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Film-Movie-THE -EXORCIST-1200-Reel-Short-Version-/280813214365?pt=US_Film&hash=item4161c59a9d

Oh... my... God!!!

For that kind of cash I hope it is a perfect copy on LPP with no lines or splices. Even between the reels. [Smile]

WOW!

It was truly amazing to see how much some of the films went for.

I'm not sure when we will see an auction like this again but if there is, you know we all will be watching.

I moved his completed sales to an excel sheet and here we go......

as well as Paypal....

Anyone is going to sell their films now....!

Amazing totals Winbert! Does this mean everyone who has a nice collection such as that should insure their films for such a price?

It looks like they really slugged it out for THE EXORCIST.

Ray, did you get it?

Something else that was really interesting is this 3 x400 of Ben Hur which sold for $66 on five bids:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-8mm-Fil m-Movie-BEN-HUR-1200-Reel-Short-Version-CHARLTON-HESTON-/280813194792?pt=US_Film&hash=item4161c54e28

and from a week earlier, the 400' went for $92 on seven bids!

OK with the help of Excel sheet I make a figure and fact information.

ps: Each item is followed with my comment.

Items sold above $100 are:

$384.51 Excorsit 3 x 400 ----> I have this and cost me $45

$133.50 Superman 1200'----> I have this and cost me $45
$127.50 3 Shorts Creature Films Black Lagoon, Walks among , Revenge 1- 800' ----> Usually each cost around $30 so don;t really absurd

$100.95 Airplane" 1200'----> I have bought it for $30

....and then films sold above $70 but below $100 are:

$93.00 Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back" Part 1 & 2 400' ----> I have bought them for $12 each (it was on Ebay a month ago for $10)
$92.00 Ben Hur" 400' Charlton Heston ----> I have bought it for $9
$82.99 The Producers Mell Brooks, Gene Wilder 2 - 800' ----> I don't have this but may be this is the right price
$81.00 March of the Wooden Soldiers 2 - 800' ----> I don't have this but may be this is the right price
$76.00 The Mummy's Ghost 400' ----> I don't have this but this is the right price
$76.00 Our Town 2 - 800' Full Version ----> I don't have this but may be this is the right price
$72.00 DR. ZHIVAGO" 1200'----> I have bought this for $30

$70.00 Laurel & Hardy "Pack Up Your Troubles" on 2 800'----> I don't have this but may be this is the right price

I think when we are on Ebay, buyer's psychological aspect must be taken into account too.

Same with Supermarket, how they arrange the shelf and product brands are also with this psychological aspect method.

Thanks for doing the math, Winbert.

Yes, everyone got a lot of money. Well, the buyers got film. In some cases, very expensive film. Like you said, 14 of the 285 films on auction sold for over $100 apiece.

Does this mean you are angry that the seller made so much? That eBay and Paypal made a lot, too? That people overpaid for certain titles? All of the above?

Are you never going to sell on eBay again?

We all know that eBay is a racket. Unfortunately, it is THE auction site. It may be the only place to buy and sell that has such worldwide exposure. Yes, I know how much they take from every sale. It sucks. But, it is what it is.

I am caregiver for my invalid mother. I also take care of the house. I do the cleaning , laundry, cooking and shopping. I do not get paid for any of that. eBay, when I can get to it it, is my only income. If I knew I could do better at another site, I would go there. I have tried Amazon Marketplace. I sold more on eBay.

Pat Sorry I meant "I have bought it". I edited already.

Chris what I meant was that I hardly think to re-sell my films. Everything stays in my collection unless they are multiple or traded with other titles I want more.

I am selling LPs on Ebay for living too [Wink]

Sorry Winbert,

I did not mean to go off on or offended you. I apologize. It has been a really rough week.

What kind of LP's do you sell? Forgive me but I don't remember your eBay name. Do you have a store? I ask because my stock of LP's at Soundtracks and More is dwindling. Do you have soundtracks?

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on February 01, 2012, 04:34 PM:

Chris,

No worries.

Although I am more a Hip Hop/Dance music lover but when selling LPs, I only do for progressive rock (Pink Floyd, Camel, King Crimson, PFM and sort of) and 1970s Hard Rock (Led Zepellin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Beatles).

If you have kind of those music let me know.

Does anyone want to trade their copy to me for one of my features ?

POT O' GOLD (Jimmy Stewart, Paulette Goddard 5x400)
PRISON TRAIN (Fred Keating, Linda Winters 4x400)

I was shocked that the three reel Exorcist went for almost $400! That's incredible... gives me more incentive to finally dub my three reel German print into English.

Posted by Chris Fries (Member # 2719) on February 02, 2012, 02:15 AM:

Brian, best of luck on that re-record. I am in the process of fixing the sound on a 1x400' of "The Exorcist". I tried to use the sound from another print of the same S8 film but trying to get a good sync has been difficult. Also, the sound from the other print is pretty quiet in some places. So, I am reconstructing the digest on video by editing footage together from the DVD. I will then extract the sound and try to sync it up on film scene by scene. Not an easy thing to do. Especially when scenes in the digest are not in the same order as the actual film. Does your German 3x400 also have scenes out of order?

I'm wondering if the person hiking up all of these prices (on digests) might be a "newbie" to super 8, who has no idea as to how much these digests usually go for ...

" You mean I could have paid only what? Son of a B****!"

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on February 02, 2012, 01:25 PM:

Osi, your theory will not work when we see the Exorcist's history of bidding, as follows:

There are 7 ebayers who already put their bids above the normal price of this three parter (usually goes between $40-$90). So perhaps there is another factor that we still need to learn about this new phenomenon.

It is so good.. i will be digitalizing this one and will share it with you guys when i have it done [Smile]

Ive been running coats on all my films but this one is so perfect, i dont want to mess it up.. what do you think? The film says: kodak P safety, what does that mean? im still learning the types of film stock currently. . .

Anthony, good to know. I bought 5 reels from this seller and wish they are as good as yours.

As a new collector perhaps you don't know Barry (he is member of ths forum) yet.

He has a website for selling films and if you are looking for Cinderella.... he has plenty of them!

Beleive me, there was a time when Barry gave those kind of Disney films for FREE, due to the number he had.

Now... he has 50% off for his items and Cinderella is among them. He sells the two extracts for GBP 8.5 after discount in one big reel (means GBP 4.25 each).

Ask him to send via Royal maill Small Packet International which will cost you around GBP 3 to USA.

Here is his link:

Good luck

Anthony,

Your copy of "Dumbo" looks great. I look forward to seeing the video.

I was watching the auction even though I have one myself. Here is a clip.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvGqgpDSZxY&feature=youtu.be

As you can see, it has an emulsion problem. There is a discussion about it on another thread.

I decided not to bid on "Dumbo The Flying Elephant". There were too many other films I was trying to get.

I do hope to find a better copy someday. Perhaps I will try Barry. I might get a sound version of "Dumbo Makes The Big Top" as well. I will have to see how well my auctions do tomorrow.

As for Cinderella, here is a preview of the 400' reel I will be selling soon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJubylCdRyY&feature=youtu.be

There are a few lines, some fade and one or two splices but over all an OK copy.

The same cannot be said of this film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ3X7Spz1bM&feature=youtu.be

This is a 400' of "Lady and the Tramp". It has many problems. In fact, I am not sure I will sell this or not. It's pretty beat up.

Anyway, I hope all films purchased from the lady in Michigan look as wonderful as Anthony's "Dumbo". I will post mine on Youtube as soon I get them but only if my projector is willing to run properly, that is.

Anthony, one aspect of this hobby is indeed "how to get a better print". We can start with a faded print but hunting for non-fade one is another challenge. But this makes our hobby to become more colorful [Wink]

The other aspect is how to create longer digest using several sources (different company or different country of release of the same title).

Later, how to find a rare digests/features that are hardly to come by.

Another aspect that I can think of is how to create customized box.

Last ...being completish... Disney completish, Tom & Jerry completish (it is me..,!), MGM completish (remember Mike Pekham), Universal 8 horror completish etc, etc.

However, last but not least is how to sale our multiple prints as the result of the first one.... [Wink] and if we can recover our cost ...or even make money that is another magical aspect [Razz]

Winbert,

Very well said but you left out another possible aspect of S8 film collecting. The fine art of re-recording. I am trying to learn that one now.

As for "getting a better print", I understand that. I really hope the "Lady and the Tramp" reels I just got are, compared to what I have now, better. You see, I am trying to get every 200' Disney animated film digest ever made so I can complete the collection. [Smile]

Posted by Winbert Hutahaean (Member # 58) on February 03, 2012, 12:16 PM:

Yes you are right Chris. To grow up the list, I think everyone can contribute to say what make this super 8mm collecting more colorful.

.... oyeah for me another aspect is...how to find a good deal! [Big Grin]

quote:
You see, I am trying to get every 200' Disney animated film digest ever made so I can complete the collection.
So you are taking the last aspect.... being completish. Gian is your partner then. He has all 200' WDHM.... on low fade. Is that correct Gian? [Wink]

cheers,

well here is the video, Chris, i think your recording method is best, the color is about the exact same as your print, too bad about the emulsion problem though on yours.

Anthony,

Thank you for the video. It's great to see how it is supposed to look. Are you planning to put up more films on Youtube? I was wondering if you would consider posting them on the thread called "Super 8 Digests on Youtube".

http://8mmforum.film-tech.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006532

I never intended to be the only one sharing videos of film there.

Also, you have a very nice Chinon 6100. I have one just like it. It has served me well for nearly 30 years. My current projector is also a Chinon. The SS-1200. Except for my current belt issue, it is also a great machine.

Anthony, as you mention on the youtube that it is on Kodak SP, your eyes will be blown up when you see the same title on Kodak LPP [Big Grin]

Just stay tune on Ebay, there is a time for that [Razz]

I have some of them and it was not Derann but for WDHM released at the end of super 8mm era (around 1980s).

If you want to get AGFA (which is comparable to LPP) keep your eyes open for cartoons released by Walton Films. Or the easiest one, just contact Barry to find Tom & Jerry on AGFA.

Looks like everything old is new again. The new auctions are about half over. They just sold the 2x400 "JAWS" for $100. Again. I think. "JAWS" was part of their original auctions. I can't confirm this (I've tried) but I think the original buyer returned it and it got re-listed.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/280823820804?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Maybe they had another copy. Maybe not. Check out the newest comments on my video of this film.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj4EIbiRWUM

I think he was unhappy he paid $100 for a 30 min. version of "Jaws". Then again, I think the original description is misleading. "Super 8mm Universal 8 Films Movie "Jaws" Full Length Part 1 & 2 Roy Scheider".

I finally received my film purchase from this lot.

From 5 reels I won (Gigi, Easter Parade, The Champ, Northwest Passage and Small One), as I predicted only Northwest Passage is on low fade.

So here is the screen shots:

 -

 -

Not bad for 30 years old films, isn't it?

I will also upload the same screen shot on my own thread regarding old films with good color.

BTW, now we can see who are buying those film at crazy prices and none of them are newbies, in fact the buyer of Alien has once bought the very same reel at much cheaper. So he knew the scene.

I don't understand what made him buying for $200+ for the same film....!

Like many, I was astonished by the prices paid for 'Alien' 400' and 'The Exorcist' 3 x 400'. Both were won by the same buyer in Australia, so I have tried the direct approach of politely asking him why he was willing to bid so high, and whether there's any reason that makes him willing to bid more now than (e.g.) two years ago. I said I'd pass on any reply here, so if I hear from him, we will soon know the truth!
