looking for DW Griffith films but will consider other silent films.

While we are talking abut Griffits, how rare is "the America" from Blackhwak?

I knew this film was made silent, but I have one with sound version. It is 5 reels x 400' (nett footage = 1972 feet). On the previous thread about this very title, I only had 4 reels, but lucky I found the missing reel to make it complete 5 reels as it was originally released

According to imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0014672/combined there are two version of "America". i.e

141 min | USA:93 min (Killiam Restoration with narration)

So I believe my "America" is the second one i.e Killiam Restoration with narration since it is with Sound and nett length is parallel with the film duration.

The side label says:

I have a 1977 Blackhawk Bulletin - the only versions in there are the 2475ft feature and a 600ft highlights reel.

My print has been checked to be sound and complete 5 reels from opening credit to closing credit. So when it was released if 1977 was not in Blackhawk catalog.

Any thought?

Dino-that is an incredible archive you have. By the way I too am fascinated with the Griffith films as these are the most beautiful films of the early silent era and for all time for that matter. I urge anyone who is interested in DW Griffith to read this book: "My Adventures with DW Griffith" by Karl Brown He was the assistant camera man to Billy Bitzer. His telling of this incredible man and his remarkable crew is a magnificently written detailed account of the technology, the method and personalities associated with this great film artist.
