I'd like to sell my print of Escape from Alcatraz on Eastman film with strong colors and good magnetic sound.
The image is excellent throughout, very little or no lines. The first reel has, I think, three splices in the first 150 ft, and one missing sprocket hole, with a splice, around half-way through. In the second reel there is a green line which appears and disappears for about 3-4 minutes when Morris first gets out of his cell. Both reels played smoothly through my ST-1200 HD.
It is mounted on two 1200' reels in, what I believe is, a 16mm film can.
Asking $135, or best offer, or trade.

Oliver, if you provide your postal code I can furnish more precise shipping rates. For now, it looks about $50 with 6-10 days to delivery.

It's a first rate film,Akshay,I have a print myself and it's one that doesn't turn up that often, probably because it's Eastwood and
there aren't too many of his films on S/8.

Hugh, are you hinting I shouldn't sell? On one hand, I love the feature and want to keep it. On the other, a sale will translate into another feature purchase.
Before this, I only knew Don Siegel for Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Here the silences, Eastwood's acting, the details of life in the prison .... superb! I feel The Shawshank Redemption, ranked #1 on the IMDB Top 250, is so similar to Escape from Alcatraz, relatively unknown a film. Even The Green Mile seems to have been inspired with a mouse scurrying between prison cells.
While we are on Don Siegel, is The Shootist available on Super 8?

It could be in Italy as a pirate print, the only copies I've come across are on 16mm.You're quite right on Alcatraz, some years
ago I remember watching this and "McVicar" back to back and
felt like I'd done a stretch myself.

Well, shipping and import duty to Europe spoiled the fun for some interested parties. Now listed on eBay, link.
Interested forum members can still PM or e-mail me to avail the forum price of $135.

This seems like a pretty good deal. Do you know if it was originally on the 1200' reels or was it spliced together cuz my projector only takes 600' and I'd hate to cut the film to downsize it.
Posted by Akshay Nanjangud (Member # 2828) on August 10, 2012, 11:59 AM:
Zechariah, i think the price is good too. Am unsure about original reel sizes but I can re-mount the feature on smaller reels for you. I think I have two 600' reels, the others will have to be 400' reels. E-mail me if you are interested.
Posted by Hugh Thompson Scott (Member # 2922) on August 10, 2012, 12:28 PM:
Hi Akshay and Zechariah, the original film was on 400' spools.

I knew you'd know, Hugh. There you are Zechariah.
