Believe it or not, I wouldn't mind finding the 4X400ft digest version of the 76 "Kong". It's not as great as the original, but it's a good digest of an overlong feature in it's original run time.

That original "Kong" tends to come up quite often I have noticed.

Osi, 'overlong', perhaps, which would make the Jackson remake positively perpetual.

Hi Austin,I've noticed that you buy then sell your films quite
frequently, do you tire of them so quickly? the reason I'm asking
is when I, and no doubt other members acquired prints, they
were cherished and loved, some I still have, like the silent features
"The Lost World" & "Nosferatu" which cost a mere £10.00 each
which was a weeks wage when I purchased them from Perry's
Movies over forty years ago.I looked on these films as classics of
their genre, even though I wasn't a silent film collector. One thing you've got to ask yourself is ,do I really want this film for
to keep or just to view the once,if the latter is the reason, then
this is going to become a very expensive viewing experience
and not a very good way to collect titles as your collection is
going to dwindle away.I feel that a hire library would have been
an option, but unfortunately they've all gone.

There is another relatively new collector here that also buys a film then sells it very quickly. The films are treated like a DVD rental. That is something that makes little sense to me especially because of the cost of shipping. While we all occasionally will sell a print, generally we have had them in our collections for quite some time. If the intent is to watch and then sell, hopefully leader is spliced onto reels and the projector does not scratch the print. I can see renting a film on DVD first before deciding that a print of it is desired. But not purchasing a print and treating it as if it were a rental. Perhaps its the New Generation; I find it disturbing nonetheless.

Yeah I have to agree with Joe & Hugh because whats the point in buying a film that you are going to watch once and then turn around and sell it or trade it? I'm really selective on the films that I purchase and that I want to add to my collection and keep in my collection!

Years ago when companies started releasing many films especially in Super 8mm Sound, they were expensive. So, I was selective before making a purchase. There were reviews in various publications which were helpful. But buying and selling was vastly different than it is today. "King Kong" fortunately appears for sale quite often as many prints were sold.

Yes, but each to his own. If a person is content to trade films constantly, the way I look at it, the film you like might just turn up where it wouldn't otherwise!

Oz: But will the said film actually be kept in one's collection?

When I get this title it will always be in my collection there is a lot that I have that I won't get rid of for example my collection of our gang and Disney cartoons ect

Glad to hear it, Austin. Looks like the Film Collecting disease has spread and claimed another victim. [Eek!]
The only side effect that is troublesome is the drain it puts on one's wallet...

Uh Oh!
The Disease has progressed rapidly!
Here is my Rx: Relax and project all the reels that you bring along with you. Since you are on Vacation, watching films into the wee hours of the morning is very helpful as you can (hopefully) sleep late.

If you were in my neck of the woods in SC, I'd show you the next step up which is 16mm. Actually, financially that's a step down...
