How can an sp stock film sell for the same price as a Derann LPP one of the same title? Or a Marketing 3 x 400 for the same price as a Derann Disney low fade feature? I am completely baffled by these erroneous self valuations.

Similarly, how a Bauer T610 can ever produce a light output of what was it again?....4 or 5k lumens.. (sorry I don't remember the exact figures quoted, I was too busy P*ssing my sides),

is truly and spectacularly beyond me!!

The 3x400 foot War of the Worlds is a great digest. Mine has good color also.

Posted by Thomas Smith (Member # 1889) on September 18, 2014, 02:23 AM:

I ALSO HAVE THIS 3X40OFT DIGEST WITH GREAT COLOUR
BUT ONLY PAID AROUND £30, WON IT ON EBAY A FEW YEARS AGO

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on September 18, 2014, 05:06 AM:

That's more like it Thomas. Your purchase was at a bargain price I would say if it was in excellent condition, however paying £150 I for what nowadays has to be a fading "Marketing" cut down, would be down right ludicrous!

Posted by Paul Spinks (Member # 573) on September 18, 2014, 08:05 AM:

I used to have the Marketing Films full feature of "War of the Worlds" but it was turning red. I replaced it with the 3X400ft digest which still has excellent colour and is very well edited. The 3X400ft digests sold here in the UK were printed on much better stock than the full feature versions and whilst I agree that the asking price is very high, if the print is excellent and it's in the original boxes I can see a collector being tempted, as this title is getting rarer due to us all hanging on to our own prints.

Andrew and Thomas, your comments are inappropriate considering this is a fellow collectors advert for HIS own film sales and your comments are not helpful to the seller and if you are not actually in the market to purchase his films you should not have any reason to post in his thread... Would you comment on anothers potential purchase in a store if they were engaged with the sales person? I think not and here is no exception!

The practice of butting in on a fellow collectors private sales on this site was dealt with sometime ago and I believe the conclusion was that if you are not intending to purchase you should refrain from posting... it's just not good manners!

Thanks Ricky,

I appreciate your comments on this and valid points which you have raised.

This is one of the reasons why I have not used this forum for selling items for sometime (Goldfinger being one) as I cannot be bothered with the nonsense that goes on.

It’s just made me realize that nothing has changed !

War of the worlds is a good price a 400ft version sold on ebay for over £70 recently so a good 3 x 400 is a bargain at 150 and roberts films are allways top notch a trusted seller .

Guys, this is ridiculous. If someone on the forum lists a movie for sale and someone feels that price is fair enough to pay for it, then clearly the price is acceptable even if only to one person. Just because someone sells a movie for $10 yet the next guy sells the same or lower quality copy for $100 doesn't make him out to be a crook. The buyer wouldn't pay the price if he didn't feel it was fair.

The only way the buyer is at fault here is if he advertised a copy as complete or no splices or mint condition or something and the print delivered (or not delivered at all) was not representative of the condition advertised.

This story reminds me of a deal that fell through for me off this forum, I had already put my name to feature and when a "friend" of his found out he was selling his favourite movie he persuaded him to keep it, so although I was happy to pay an agreed sum plus shipping, he apologised with an email. We are all grown ups on here gents, capable of making up your own minds as adults, read between the lines, but the freedom of speech should be retained here an opinion that's all it is.

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on September 18, 2014, 03:17 PM:

Correct Paul, this is a forum and therefore ALL opinions count. After all we live in a democracy where freedom of speech is acceptable and positively encouraged in a fair society.

Very often people on here point out things they do not agree with, like anyone else, some I agree with, some I do not.
When that becomes an untruth either way,it causes problems. That it why I speak nothing but fact about what I observe and post. If that offends anyone because their "facts" are ambiguous to say the least, that is not my problem.

Posted by Robert Tucker (Member # 386) on September 18, 2014, 03:46 PM:

Not when you are bad mouthing another member of this forum in every posting you make to deliberately cause problems for fellow members, along with not stating true facts.

Yes everyone has a freedom of speech but not at the expenses of someone else who is trying to make an honest living. Who has been a member for a number of years on this forum. Who has been involved in the BFCC for a number of years and other projects.

It's just as well Paul Foster doesn't take exception to the recent posts then isn't it Robert.

I take my hat off to you Sir for all of your efforts towards any B.F.C.C. convention both past and present and wish you well with your business.

As said, this is a forum and therefore as such, opinions are expressed on a regular basis whether we all choose to agree with them or not. My time on here is certainly not wasted on "slagging off" as many people as possible and I would like think, from time to time, I have been as much help to others as they have been to me.

As we all share the same interest for film on this forum, we should better be united than divised. [Smile]

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on September 18, 2014, 04:15 PM:

We are all United on our love of the hobby Dominique. Divisions only come about when people disagree on opinions. If you are asking for that to be the case, then what you asking for Dominique is eutopia, which of course does not exist and what a boring world we would all live in if such a thing ever did.

So the price of any film for sale has to be approved by Andrew...is that it?

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on September 18, 2014, 05:09 PM:

Of course not Bill, but if you would like to offer an opinion of whether you feel something is at a good price or not, what is wrong with that? After all, nobody kicks up a stink if something is a bargain and people comment on just that. Surely that has to work both ways or are we only allowed to post strictly positive comments only?

It all goes back to the beginning again here and that is that forums are riddled with peoples opinions, that is what make them colourful and interesting and not vanilla and boring. We are all proud to live in a society that promotes "free speech" I would like to think .

If I bought one of the films advertised would you consider me an idiot for paying the asking price?

Posted by Thomas Smith (Member # 1889) on September 18, 2014, 07:18 PM:

Ricky all I said was that I only paid £30 for my print don't
Think I said sellers price was to high ?

Posted by Douglas Meltzer (Member # 28) on September 19, 2014, 12:05 AM:

A fellow member is listing an item that they own and it is their prerogative to set whatever sale price they wish. A post finding fault with that price serves no beneficial purpose and only leads to the thread being hijacked.

The value of an item is subjective. If it is set too high, no one will purchase the item. If the seller is realistic, a lower price will be forthcoming.

If a party is unhappy after the transaction has occurred, then by all means complain. There is no need to complain before the sale has taken place.

In answer to your earlier question Bill which I presume you aim at me, it matters none whatever my views are regarding what you or others decide is a "good buy".

"Would I consider you an idiot?" What does it matter either way?

All of the people I know outside of the cine world consider me to be an absolute lunatic for paying even £10 for a film when you can just get the DVD for about £3 nowadays.
Looks and sounds fantastic on the big screen, easy to screen, no noise from PJ, Dolby Digital sound, no storage issues, no scratching to worry about etc etc.. the list of advantages from their point of view are endless.

I will never convince a single one of them that paying £200+ for one film is a good idea (and that includes my wife), anymore than someone selling what I consider to be an overpriced item is a bargain.

The point is, it really doesn't matter a monkey's uncle whatever anybody else thinks, so long as you yourself are happy with the price you have paid for the item you desire.

I have purchased loads of films at what I know all too well were overpriced, but I don't care. I wanted them, probably will never sell them anyway and if I ever tried I know all too well that I would never get back anything like what I paid for them.
But again... I don't care whatever anyone else makes of my decisions. All that matters to me, is that I get the titles I want and the pleasure of screening them in the manner I prefer.
If that makes me a mug in other peoples opinions...so be it, it won't cause me any sleepless nights that's for sure.

Posted by Bill Phelps (Member # 1431) on September 19, 2014, 06:56 AM:

Based om your last paragraph, why don't you keep your "overpriced" opinions to yourself.

Posted by Andrew Woodcock (Member # 3260) on September 19, 2014, 07:17 AM:

Based on my first paragraph.. why does it matter, they are just opinions?

Once again (sigh)... this is just a forum, littered with opinions in the vast majority of posts, some you and I will agree with...some we will not. Some I agree with, some you do not, some you agree with, some I do not. It really doesn't matter, they are just opinions of which we are all entitled to decently express on an open forum.

BTW:- there are loads of hugely overpriced top top features(IMHO), but they will always "have the right to be" if indeed any do at all.

Why? Because these are top titles on top film stock in top condition therefore highly desirable items to many. All of the ones I described which fall into the overpriced category that I own are just such items. Such items advertised on here, I never comment on because of the reasons I have just said. Others which fall outside this bracket do bring about comment by not only me, but by many in many other examples on here.

For whoever buys "Magical Mystery Tour" ...

You don't have to, of course, but could you please give us some screenshots when you get it? I have long sought a truly good color copy of this title and haven't found one yet, but I don't rule out good color copies existing ...

therefore, could you put up some screenshots? It would bolster my confidence in actually finding a good copy (and one I can afford!) [Smile]

Andrew, do you find anything in Doug's post that applies here or is it just your right to "freedom of speech" to offer your opinion...I have seen many prices I would not pay but I don't feel the need to lessen the chance of a sale with my "opinion"

I feel I have to take Andrews side on this - he is SIMPLY expressing his opinion, which is his entitlement...my Lord if you had come on "SilvoScreen" - nearly 10 years since I closed it you would have appreciated this very thing...along with tons of humour..." I was the Howard Stern of 8/16mm. We have a great privilege - freedom of speech. I, actually love Rob "Retro- vision" descriptions...I secretly chuckle an enjoy it for the same way a "saddo" like me watches those wonderful "Ronco" infocomercials...P.S Rob...bet you watched a few of my listings on ebay all those years ago... Anyway, good to keep in touch with all you guys. Dabbling back a little bit hopefully in 16mm...so Rob p.m. me if you ever get a llp copy of the Wicker Man..best to all...and remember hobby's are fun!
