FLYING ELEPHANTS turns up under other titles from other manufacturers like Atlas -- but you have to buy it in 2 parts, usually.

Interesting parlay - Patrick, I'd go with the Std 8mm prints most of the time, especially with Blackhawk Films - Their pre-print was A-1 on the Roach materials - Std 8, which began in earnest in 1932, was culled from the finest 16mm elements, so you can be sure when it comes to that - Most any film in Std 8 from about 1932 onwards, will 95% of the time be exceptional, not all companies were like this - Mainly Blackhawk - FLYING ELEPHANTS, which was available as far back as 1954 is a first-rate example - It is also one of the rarest silents, because of availabilty (good seller too) - So, get the Std 8, you'll be able to locate a Super 8 afterwards - They seem to go together like...Laurel & Hardy - Adieu, Shorty

I feel silly, I have "The Laurel and Hardy Films" (hardbound edition), and looked it up at home, I didn't realize that it was one of the shorts, but I must confess (PLEASE don't tar and feather me, most honorable Shorty!), that I have NOT seen every short the lads have done!

It might be worth investing in a Standard 8mm projector if you have a taste for rare silent films. That gauge was around much longer than Super 8. In any case -- good luck!

I have a lot of Std8 projectors, including the famous Kodak sound. But I converted my collection in Super8 for convenience.

always keep and strive more Std 8, there's alot more around since its inception (1932) and Super 8 (1965) - More in the smaller gauge, and sometimes the rarest/earliest extant films not available in Super 8 - Diversify

Shorty is absolutely right, STRIVE for the standard 8mm prints, as they were far above the super 8 prints of the same titles, by the same company.

With Blackhawk, sometimes the Standard 8mm was better -- other times not. I've upgraded from Standard to Super for many of the Laurel and Hardy silents. Sometimes, it wasn't as good. Sometimes, it was the same. Sometimes, it was better. The projector is a big variable, since I love to project on my 150 watt Elmo ST-1200HD. I get a brighter picture -- sometimes, Blackhawk printed too dark for Standard 8mm.
Examples: My PUTTING PANTS ON PHILLIP is Standard 8mm looks almost like a 16mm print with theatrical density. My Super 8 is printed too bright. Same with SUGAR DADDIES.
WRONG AGAIN in Super 8 was an upgrade from the Standard 8, which was a bit dark.
LEAVE'EM LAUGHING was about the same in both gauges.
Another variable -- Standard 8mm prints seem to be more beat up that Super 8 prints -- but that has just been my experience.

Film have just arrived this morning (U.S.A. are so far). This is a Super8 print, as new! I did'nt see this film since the late 60'. I discovered it again... and laughed!
