The DERANN release of SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS.
Not the Ken Films-release; I own this one.
Maybe someone can help me;

I wish you luck with this. Your request inspired me to check my print, which I just screened. It too is the Ken Films version.
While the color is very nice throughout, this print has very soft focus. The following captures are with the sharpest focus possible using a Sankyo HI-PRO lens...

...Is your copy the same, very soft focus as mine? Maybe I will be looking for the Derann print soon too!

Yes, mine is the Ken Films print, too.
And the focus is so soft, that You cannot dream of to screen it big.
The colours are really beautiful.
I re-recorded the feature with the breathtaking original Stereo sound from the DVD which revalues the screening.
But the Pan&Scan is terrible.
So I hope for a Derann print...

Although Derann's print will most probably be better in nearly all departments, it was from the sam neg, so it will still have the original pan and scan, I'm afraid you'd have to put up with that!

Yes, all they did was to make sure they could get the best quality from the available neg, if a new neg would have been made it would have cost a lot of money and the prints would have been in scope as well. Derann bought all the negs (that they wanted) from Ken and Red Fox and re-printed them in the U.K.

I thought that Derann used the 35mm-flat-version which had been made extra for the cinemas which are not able to screen scope features.
But this is a legend now...

Burton, I have Seven Brides and mine too has extremely soft focus. It's a real shame because the colours are pretty much like yours.

My copy has been respooled onto 4 x 600ft reels.

Just curious if all your guy's prints are printed on Mylar/estar. The reason I ask is because I have a Tom and Jerry with great color on mylar with soft focus. I had a faded print before on acetate with much better focus. I forget exactly what the difference in thickness is but it would make a difference.

My print is Kodak LPP on Estar stock as you deduced. Beautiful color I have to admit but very soft, even in close-ups.

I've found with some of these PANNED & SCANNED films they often have a soft image, the more the print is scanned the softer the image, it's such a shame Ken/M.G.M. were reluctant to bring scope prints out, it most probably been a much better print in all catagories.
