It's quite a thorough listing, but if I was a potential buyer, I'd be a little worried by "No splices of note", even though I appreciate that any splices may be reel joins. But at that price, I'd want to know that there are absolutely no frames missing!

It must be a reprint as te credits on the artwork refer to A New Hope but the art work is of the Reurn of the Jedi!

Well, fortunately, "STAR WARS" is the rare title that will get THAT kind of potential selling price.

I have very RARE "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" 1977 version scope feature, and THAT one might well go over a thousand, but most titles will be under the thousand mark ...

I'm only VERY GLAD that i bought most of my titles before they really started to skyrocket as, well ...

You think the prices are not fair yet I bet those same members on here would gladly sell a rare print for that high amount. I know I would! I know you guys don't want to hear this and I don't mean it to be rude, but if the price is too high for you then go buy the blu-ray. After all you can get just about any film for $20 or less. And don't give me "its not as good as film" argument. Blu ray, on a good display, looks far superior to a super 8 print, period. The 4k blurays...damn...I watched ET the other night...I though it was better than 35mm.

I do not think the high prices are going to kill the hobby. If the hobby was dying the prices wouldn't be going up. Be glad that people out there still find film fascinating. This whole thing about print pricing is to high...You all sound like a bunch of grumpy old men.... Just enjoy the movies...film or not....

I'm happy my collection is worth something. I don't collect films because they are worth money but it is nice to see that films I have are sought after and can realize lofty prices. There are many things I can't afford and I just don't buy them. And I agree that high prices are not killing the hobby, if the hobby were dead the films would be worthless. [Smile]

Hi Can, Derann released Star Wars on 4X600' reels/spools. The intro title crawl is titled "A New Hope". Not a reprint, but from the re-release. It was offered in boxes featuring art from Return of the Jedi.
As far as the gripes go about the price,
These super 8mm prints have been struck and are no longer for sale except where we can find them. Thanks to those who offer them.

The Derann Disneys, MGM musicals and Star Wars all sold in very large numbers, so it does seem unusual they go for so much but as long as no one's family goes unfed or bankrupt through buying them it doesn't matter it's only money after all.

Meanwhile a genuinely rare and beautiful full length 'scope print of The Belstone Fox has still not been grabbed listed here on Ebay UK for just £100:

I'd agree that, given the right projection equipment or flat screen TV, a bluray will look better ...

... but digital can "crap out" on you and be no good in a very short time, somwetimes only a year or two ...

... while film, given a good film stock, will retain it's brilliance for, now let's see, my print of "Little Black Sambo" was from the 1940's, on standard 8mm, and it still looks as brilliant as the day it was printed ...

so, like, 80 years?! [Smile]

That is the original artwork Derann released it with in 1989; slightly bonkers, but there you go...

The negatives used were the 1981 re-release.

I have always said if a film sold for £5000,though it would be nuts, IF, the start price is sensible then i say good luck to the seller, as Kevin said, if your not bankrupting the household income for a movie then thats up to the buyer,
The lion king i think is probably at a start price that most would pay for a very good print,
Star Wars, (which is not a rare print), seems to go for anything from 500 to 2000 so with a bid on it the seller is lucky at such a high start price. That's if it is a genuine bid and not a shill bid to get it going.
I still laugh at some of the stuff on there but i always try and start my own listings with i reasonable price and then hope it goes high. So far i have happy with most of my listings and what i get for them.
I have a purchased a few of ebay ,(generally shorts), but now i buy only from dealers or fellow collectors.
By the way, theirs a lot of grumpy young men out there as well [Wink]

I think , when it comes to top titles, a seller should be more accurate in his description on what he offers such as film stock , lines etc. Especially on eBay - Buyer can send it all back if not happy and eBay will grant a full refund + the seller will even have lost the shipping if he has to posted to a far away country - I had it once , with a sale from Belgium to Canada, I had to refund the 250 Dollars + lost also my 80 dollars it cost me to post the package to Canada, the product was 100% perfect, simply a new young buyer on eBay had regret about spending his 250 US dollars - On top, I never received the product back , After long search I discovered it was delivered to a complete different address than mine - Such high bids look nice, but what if the buyer changes his mind ? We'll never know - On one thing I agree of course, QUALITY ALWAYS SELLS buy Agfa or LPP movies on real/reel film - I would rather sell my stuff to someone I trust - If possible to a forum member would be my first priority even if I would receive lesser money.

Your right on that Gilbert, but there are also very dodgy buyers as well, fortunately, in all the years i have sold on ebay i have only experienced this twice.
The second person told me he was a member on here, (i never did find out who the twat was), and he claimed,as you state, that he would simply tell ebay its not as described, and i would be forced to return his money and he would put up a story on here. I invited him to do so and asked who he was on here but never got that reply.
I copied and pasted what he wrote, opened a case myself, and he was told he was keeping it. He never came on here but i still wait to see who it was.
So i agree, good, clear accurate descriptions by sellers, but also buyers also need to be honest and not try to get partial / full refunds just because they didn't know when to stop bidding. [Wink]
